Knowing the line combinations the day of the game would be a good start. I have listened to the team 1260 for years before it got canceled. My sister is a die hard Oilers fan, season ticket holder and is obsessed. We would always text each other when he was on the Gregor show about how oblivious he was on what was going with the team. Gregor would ask a question about someone new being in the line up that night and he would be like oh really I didn't know that I'm not sure what I think, what about you Jason. It was like come on man you cover the team, its your job to know these things.

No no, I’m quite comfortable agreeing that Rifraud is quite awful at his job. Did love his list of things Edmonton should target though. Cup pedigree, toughness, locker room leadership. Suggested going after Pat Maroon lmao. Never change Edmonton media (because Katz can’t help but take direction from them so Edmonton media and alumni are the real obstacles forever holding this team down).

Could be haven't heard him in awhile maybe after the team shutdown he realized who couldn't take his job for granted. As for Strud's I find his analysis just barely one cut above Gene Principe, he's almost a parody of himself. The people I have also liked hearing from on 1260, and these guys are not just Edmonton specific media were Button, Jamie Mclennan and Ray Ferraro. Dustin Neilsen was OK as well, I mean I know he can be over the top but at least he wasn't an Oilers jock sniffer.

Their in game commentary with Jack Michaels and Louie Debrusk is just awful as well. I understand that most home town broadcasters have some bias, but they talk about how good the Oilers are playing when their losing games. The last Carolina game I was searching for the out of town feed on my Sportsnet plus to get away from it.

Good media can talk about the game in an intelligent way.

Bad media reduces the game to character, physicality, toughness, and "wanting it more". Edmonton media is bad media. It's literally all they talk about. They couldn't break down a forecheck, powerplay, or breakout if their life depended on it.

I'm honestly loving the "Edmonton sports media is awful" stuff. I'm intrigued how bad that they might be, since I know how awful some long time radio sports hosts are here in Philly.

I consider good hockey media to be those people who can intelligently discuss and assess the game, and I’m sorry if you lack the capacity to determine who those individuals are yourself. I think they’re pretty obvious, and more importantly I think the people who can’t do that are even more obvious, like Rishaug and Matheson and Spector.
