Dustin Wolf recalled by Flames

The 22-year-old netminder has a .924 save percentage and a 2.34 GAA in six games for the Wranglers this season.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman believes the move is being made more for injury protection, rather than a possible upcoming trade. Dan Vladar and Jacob Markstrom also are on the Flames' roster. Markstrom missed Wednesday's practice for maintenance.

I'm pretty excited to see this as I've been tracking his numbers in AHL. Would be great to see if he can at least be a back up option to Markstrom and start the youth movement early along with Zary and co. Definitely did not see this coming as I thought it would happen only if Vladar is traded.

I feel like you don't recall him unless you plan on using him. Flights can have a player cross the country in a matter of hours now, so if an injury happens you can get Wolf from California (AHL team is there Friday/Saturday) across the country and in the East Coast quickly.

I would say he's playing one of the 3 games (TOR, OTT, MTL) coming up.

I think Markstrom might be knicked up slightly/needs some maintenance/rest and theyre going on the road. That said, as a guy who has all 3 Flames goalies, it'd be nice if theyd get this over with and trade Vladar so I have 3 NHL goalies.

Calgary's schedule is pretty decent though time wise. They have 2 B2Bs (Colorado/Vegas on the road then Philly/Chicago on the road), but besides that it's pretty evenly spaced out, not a huge amount of travel.

Unless Vladar sucks, it's still likely a 60/40 split max.

18 games, 2 B2Bs, so 14 games at 60/40 split. Vladar = 8.4+2games (B2B)=10.4. Wolf = 7.6games.

So we're talking like 8 games max for Wolf over the next 18games in my opinion.

I agree that Vladar has the inside track on the job. He's played decently lately. How things unfold is going to depend a lot imo on near-term performance. It'll be interesting. Not a great start for Vladdy last night, though most of the blame there ought to be on Calgary.

the defense was absolute trash last night. some of those Vladar goals might have been soft, but they shouldn't have gotten to the net in the first place. That being said, im being selfish and hope DV falls on his face and Wolf carries the load while JM is out...
