As @KevinWeekes first reported, Calen Addison is indeed being traded to the #sjsharks   . #mnwild    will receive a fifth-round pick in 2026, I’m told.

There was talk before the season that Addison was going to be the PP1 guy for Minny.

I think the team ran 5F on PP1 and Addison on PP2 in their last game. And if Addison isn't getting PP1 time, he doesn't get much icetime to perform to his strengths.

I guess that's why it was such a small price tag?

1992 called - they want their +/- stats back. No one looks at +/- anymore. It’s a horseshit stat. His possession numbers are ok. Not great, not bad. He’s been lucky a little too lately. But he just doesn’t fit in Minny. I’m surprised they only got a middling prospect and a 5th. Maybe they know his salary is already going to be a problem.

Spurgeon +32 and Addison -17... both played defense last year... both played on the Minnesota Wild... both played behind the same forwards... and in front of the same goalies... in the same games as each other.
And you don't think this difference in +/- tells you anything?!?!
There's a time & place for every stat... and apples-to-apples (MIN D-man to MIN D-man)... this is the best usage of it.


Addison is a terrible defensive defenseman.
I've watched... the numbers aren't wrong.
He's the NHL's next Cholowski.
His days are numbered.

I know right? How does he even block only 1/3 of the puck at a time? That takes talent. Maybe just deflecting it away as it glances off his shin pads?

Minnesota basically gave him away. Even with his flaws he's still 23. He has time to learn and grow. Sam Jose can afford to keep him around for a few years and see how it plays out.
