Default My goalie situation just became a nightmare. Help!

I sure looked strong going into the season with Andersen and Shesterkin figuring to get me lots of starts, and Vas on IR due back late November. Then Andersen gets dinged and I pick up Woll, who looks like a steal and probably taking the #1 G slot in TOR, Until he didn't. Then Shesterkin gets dinged, DTD, and now Andersen has a blood clotting issue. I can't count on Woll and Shesterkin to get me 4 starts/week. So I need someone. And I will need to drop someone, but with Hischier out for a while and no IR slot for him, I hate to drop a F or a D. So... do I bail on Woll for a true #1? Or drop Freddy and figure that if he gets healthy I might be able to nab him again? And who to pick up? Here are the likely candidates:

    Varley
    Reimer
    Quick
    Husso
    Markstrom
    Merziklins
    Allen

There are others but I'm not sure any of them have enough TOI to move the needle for me. Seems that of this group Husso, Markstrom and Merziklins are the only ones with a lot of TOI, but maybe Quick will get more if Shesterkin is out for any significant time.

What if I dropped both Andersen and Woll and pick up Quick and Husso? Too bold a move? At least I'd have the NYR duo locked up and maybe can get enough starts. Thanks guys. Will rep!

I think you might have to drop Woll for a guy who might not be as good but will play enough to help you get through your injuries. I'd probably go Husso, but Markstrom is also getting the workhorse treatment right now. Even Merzlikins is being used as a workhorse but he's the least reliable of that 3. I think you gotta go for quantity over quality right now. I don't trust quick being able to handle a big workload so I'd turn elsewhere.

This is where I am. Steer clear of Quick. It’s only a matter of time until he turns back into a pumpkin.

Yep I’d also go Husso. Elvis as the other choice.

    Avoid Quick, he's done.

I'd probably drop Andersen, as blood clotting is serious and very hard to timetable. You might want to stream for a bit, which gives you flexibility to grab starts and also some skater category help.

I should have added Gibson to that list. Is he legit? Elvis got yanked tonight - not sure he's my guy. Samsonov got yanked for Woll, which could be good news for me. So I'm leaning towards dropping Andersen and picking up Husso. Or Gibson? Someone who is munching minutes. Gibson's stats are better than Husso's, but Dostal is the future in ANA. Maybe Gibson won't get as many starts. Or I can hope he gets traded.

I'd go Husso. Gibson, I dont know if theyll run him out there every night any more with Dostal playing so well. And true about the clotting - we may not see Freddy for a long time. And yes - Samsonov was junk again so you're probably in the short term going to see some more Woll starts.

I would drop Andersen and pick up Husso. Detroit looks deep and solid, and Husso should be at least reliable and a good volume base.
With the clotting issue I don't expect Andersen back for at least a few months, and he's not worth holding onto for that long in your league with your situation.

I would drop Andersen for Husso as well. Hang onto Woll as it'll likely be a split situation going forward. If it helps, Shesterkin is back at practice yesterday so it might not be that bad.

Gibson is legit, but legitimately not good. His last above average season was pre-Covid. He hasn't been the best goalie on SJ since then.

Thanks guys. Lots of rep given. I did drop Andersen for Husso, and of course he promptly shat the bed tonight. He looked great through one period but melted down in the second. Oh well - he will get me minutes and saves. And I'm praying for Vas' quick return!

Goaltending has been such a gongshow. Im almost afraid to list my full roster of goalies because of how bad it is and how much people would laugh. Of course, these things turn on a dime. You just gotta ask yourself which guy(s) you would drop if they put together a string of bad games - and which ones you wouldnt. I didnt watch the game but the fact that they left Husso in is good in terms of them having faith in him and (from what I gathered online) that it wasnt all his fault they got caved in like that. Of course he will have to pull up his socks otherwise they might deviate from their plans of playing him most nights.
