trade idea - Wilson + for Kempe +?

I have an owner who's a big Caps fan and he loves Tom Wilson. I probably do not need the hits and PIM's that Wilson gives me. But I could use more PPP and scoring. I was thinking of offering Wilson + Burns for Kempe + Luke Hughes. Fantasyhockeygeek has me losing this trade by a bit, but I think mostly because they rate Hughes low - Dobber's pre-season projections don't see him on the #1 PP, I'm sure. And Wilson is rated high due to the hits and PIM's that I don't absolutely need. What do you guys think? Should I offer this trade? Ask for a bit more?

Wow - think so? Fantasy Hockey Geek has me losing this trade 22-75! But I think those ratings are based on Hughes being a third pair D and no PP, and Burns being #1 PP again. But Burnsie is not getting #1 time, TDA is. And Hughes is now #1 PP. So I guess that all matters. The preseason rankings can be pretty off.

I would just ask for a lesser piece than Hughes to get it done. Kempe is quite a bit more valuable than Wilson and I think it's worth making it happen, but asking for Hughes might be a non-starter for the other GM.

What lesser defensemen could you ask for instead?

Yeah, Luke Hughes is a "sexy" name right now, so that would likely nuke the trade. Settle for less or revamp would be my advice.

Thanks guys. He picked up Hughes from our FA list about 3 minutes before i was going to do it. My argument will be that he's a pickup that he can afford to lose, but he will probably laugh in my face. I sent the proposal just to get the negotiation started! He just might go for a one-for-one with Wilson and Kempe since he needs the hits and PIM's more than I do and he's a Caps homer. We will see.

I get that Hughes was a FA grab, but how a player landed on a team should not be factored into a trade. Unless it's a keeper where rounds and whether someone was a FA pick up or matter, all players are no different than others once their on someone's team. Long story short, don't expect him to value Hughes as a lucky FA grab even though, in reality, he was.
