Normally waiver claims are pretty meh. I see this as a big one. Prosvetov has some chops. He goes from being #3 in Arizona to #2 in Colorado. That’s a significant step up.

Before Francouz short term and Annunen longer term? Not sure I see it.

Francouz has injury issues that have put his career in question. Annunen is 23 and an average prospect so therefore at least 2 years from fantasy relevance. So perhaps you need to look again.

And he was drafted by them. Believe it or not, that holds a lot of weight and is probably his main advantage.

its entirely possible that they claimed Prosvetov to be an AHL starter but i think its more likely they garbed him to be a backup for now. Its also possible that both will rotate as backup this year or both be rotating as starters if Gregorgiev is hurt. There is no such things as too many unproven goalies...more chances to get something out of nothing.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Prosvetov is a year older, was a later draft pick than Annunen, and had a worse season in the AHL last year. I've had both of them rostered on a team before cutting Prosvetov last year and keeping Annunen. Prosvetov has flashed talent and had an eye-popping game here and there but his overall body of work has been quite poor in spite of his size and athleticism.

Annunen sent down today. Prosvetov is now Georgiev’s back up.

Do you have further info where it says Francouz has a possible career ending injury?

Nothing to say it’s career ending, but several surgeries, out since last May.

Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland said Francouz’s injury is “indefinite.” Francouz is battling a groin injury he suffered way back in May.

Announced today that Francouz will not play this regular season. Prosvetov is one Georgiev injury away from being the Avs starter. Hopefully he’s been stashed if you’re able.
