Looking to compete again after winning the inaugural season last year.

I think I left myself with too minor spots for minors streaming. I have 4 open spots. Basically, our entire reserve (4), I have filled with minors. While that could be 24 extra games a week, I’d be more comfortable with 3 instead of 4.

Thinking of offering my Joshua Roy (ELC contract for 3 more years or 82GP) for Jack McBain (1.6 for 2 more years).

Is this a good offer to make?

My whole league seems interested in Roy. But yes, the McBain owner and I have had informal discussion.

McBain owner likes the offer but is just offering him around the league first.

How are more people feeling? I’m starting to sour on it myself actually.

McBain is what he is and I don’t see the growth potential or situation changing. Isn’t he just a great 4th liner? Doesn’t Roy have a top-line spot waiting for him?

You're right in assessing that McBain is what he is; there's probably not a lot of room for growth. But the thing he's delivering, hits, is elite at the moment. In my experience, being elite at one category causes people to over-estimate a player's overall value. Plus, it is only a small number of hitters who maintain hitting value over multiple years. For every multi-year hitter like Clutterbuck or Matt Martin, you have a William Carrier who had 277 hits in 54 games five years ago, but whose hitting has sloped downward each successive year. Double plus, a guy or two usually surfaces each year, so getting another McBain isn't a limited resource. I don't know about Roy being a first liner, he's got some skills, but he looks more like a low second liner/high third liner to me. But you never know. That's a long way to go to say that if you're contending now, you may want to hold McBain and hopefully reap his elite hitting until he gets tired of hitting. If you're rebuilding, then Roy is a decent return for someone you may have picked up for free. Good luck either way.

Ah yes, thank you for that. In that case, I'd ride with McBain. Watch his hits per game stats for the first month and if it looks like he's easing up, then perhaps look to a Roy like deal.

So after Roy has gone supernova in the A, this is still on the table but I did just decline the last offer of their McBain and Lucas Carlsson for my Roy.

I’m thinking of countering with my Roy for McBain and Kartye.

Thoughts?

I could also get Pavelski and one of Kolesar/Jenik.

Pavelski + seems great to me. I've always liked Jenik, but Arizona doesn't seem to.

I do think McBain is a bottom six guy, but could be a reasonable third liner.
