Zegras or Cozens

Second year in a fun league, limited keeper with two keeper deadlines (3 years for each keeper): post-draft, and post-season. Post-draft keeper declaration is up to ~6 weeks after the draft, at which point you can declare keepers and keep them at the draft position you drafted them at. Post-season keeper deadline is late in the off-season, and you can keep a player based on a pre-season draft list (basically Yahoo's list). The one exemption is that first round picks cannot be designated as keepers. This doesn't apply to players who are kept who end up ranked in the first round in the future (ie anyone named Tkachuck kept a couple years ago).

12 teams, h2h cats (goals, assists, sog, gwg, ppp, fw, hit, blk). I kept Bouchard (8th round) and Heiskanen (9th round) as post-season keepers.

This season we're expanding by two teams. Our expansions rules are as follows:

1. Keepers are exempt from the expansion process
2. We can protect 5 players. If you have 2 keepers declared, that means 7 players protected.

So, I have the following players:

Matthews (1st)
Makar (2nd)
Hischier (3rd)
Eichel (4th)
Reinhart (5th)
RNH (5th)
Pavelski (6th)
Carlson (7th)
PLD (8th)
Bouchard (8th - Keeper)
Heiskanen (9th - Keeper)
Zegras (11th)
Cozens (11th)
Morgan Rielly (11th)
Crouse (12th)
McCann (13th)

Bouchard and Heiskanen are protected automatically. In a vacuum I would protect Matthews, Hischier, Makar, Eichel, and probably Reinhart.

That said, there's a couple possible steals in Zegras and Cozens at 11th. They would be free, but I can only keep one (I think). Either or seem like a steal in a year's time, plus the additional protected player in the expansion. Question is: which one?

Give me the Workhorse from Whitehorse. Cozens for me.

I'd lean towards Cozens as well. His future as a C seems set, which plays well to your settings.

Did not realize Cozens was from Whitehorse, that settles it!

I think Zegras is losing favour due to contract talks but major talent is still there….Cozens this year, Zegras going forward

This is the team you had last year, not a team you just drafted and now are losing player to expansion, right? Unless the expansion team gets to protect Matthews somehow even though he's a first rounder, I wouldn't protect him, because if they take him, they should lose him.

Protection for me would be the rounds 2-5 guys.

I'd probably keep Cozens in the 11th as well.
