    Default Snake Draft?

    In a small 6 team league does a snake draft make sense?

    In understand that with a ten team league or more it certainly makes sense, but once you get down to six teams the spread seems less logical.

    Thoughts?
    Limited Keeper - Keep 5
    Auction draft with a budget of $600. Whatever is left becomes your acquisition budget for the season. At the end of the season 50% of your budget is carried over to the next year.
    Keeper players are taxed +$10 for forwards with over 75 pts. +$5 for forwards under 74pts. +$0 for forwards under 50pts.
    D = +$10 for 65pts +$5 for under 64pts +$0 under 40
    G = +$10 for 32W +$5 for under 31W & +$0 under 15W

    (G) (A) 25, (+/-) 5, (PIM) 3, (PPG) 7.5, (PPA) 5, (SHG) 10, (SHA) 7.5
    (SOG) 1 (W) 50, (L) -20, (GA) -5, (SV) 2, (SHO) 50

    I’m always a fan of the straight draft. Particularly if you’re using the reverse of last years standings to set the order.

    Yup. We’re using reverse order from last year’s standings.
    When I looked at I felt that the snake draft almost punished the 1st 2 picks in a 6 man league.

    I’m a fan of the snake draft for any single season league no matter the size. Especially when you have a standout player like McDavid at the top of the draft.

    Standard drafts are great in partial/full keepers as it rewards the lower placed teams. But I don’t think that’s necessary in a single season league with a complete redraft.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

    If it's a new league then a snake draft makes sense. If it's a current league and just re-drafting, then no, a snake draft doesn't make sense.

    I've always understood this to be the case.
    Snake drafts are only used for inaugural drafts or one-year drafts.
    Keeper leagues should use a straight draft format where the order is determined by reversing the previous year's final standings - with exception of any lottery pick system you might be implementing...this may tweak the order of the 1st round only.
    8-Team Points-Only Keeper League
    Roster of 25 Players
    No positional requirements for Forwards
    Farm System of 3 Players

    Fwds - Rantanen, Kaprizov, Pettersson, J. Hughes, Ovechkin, Malkin, A. Svechnikov, Forsberg, Reinhart, Keller, Gaudreau, Hagel, Eklund

    Def - Q. Hughes, Josi, Theodore, Morrissey, Dunn, Letang, Burns, Matheson, York, Thrun

    It depends what your goal of the draft structure is.
    If you want the most balanced structure possible then the snake is the way to go. If you want the first pick to have an advantage then a straight draft is preferred.

    In a one-year a straight draft would give a healthy advantage to the first picks at the expense of the later picks.
    Whether snake or straight draft I would want the 1st overall pick in any league size because the difference between McDavid and #2 is greater than any other place in the draft and in a 6 team league McDavid + #12 is stronger than #6+#7.
    12 team H-2-H 1 year league, daily roster changes, 3 goalie start minimum/week

    C: C. Keller, C. Mittelstadt, B. Nelson, R. Strome,
    LW: K. Connor, B. Tkachuk, J. Gaudreau, J. Marchessault, E. Rodrigues, A. Lafreniere
    RW: K. Fiala, J. Bratt, T. Jeannot V. Arvidsson
    D: R. Josi, J. Trouba, E. Gustafsson,

    I'm with Axeman on this one. In one of my leagues, we stopped doing the snake draft as we keep 25 players/prospects each and then have a 10 round draft, non-serpentine.
