Default Cap to shed and positions to fix

    Hi,

    Salary Cap league in sig.
Dynasty -- to draft, you must cut players. No cuts = no picks!
Like most teams, I'll be way above the cap this year.
I've selected a few easy cuts, and I still need to shed at least 8M to fit the cap, and then some to draft some warm bodies to put in the empty sweaters.
We use salary (not cap hit or AAV) so our players value fluctuate a lot on a yearly basis.
We use Cap Friendly positions eligibility.

BOTH Pavelski and Terry lost their C this year, which means I have only 2 C and 6 RW, and must start only 3 of each.

Who are the two RW I should cut (I'll shop them all, but expect very little movement as everybody is stuck with the cap) :

Pastrnak (13M, 13M and 12.5M for the next three seasons)
    Terry (7M, 7M, 7M)
    E Kane (5.5M, 4.75M, 4M)
    Tarasenko (5M then UFA)
    Pavelski (3.5M then likely retirement)
    Kakko (2.4M then RFA)

    * NB : Kane is also LW eligible, but I have Marchessault, Hagel and Zuccarello that I'd start ahead of him, so he could be a super bench player who plays both wings

If I cut Pastrnak (I doubt it's the way to go, but...) I don't have any other cuts. If not, I need to cut one more :

    Markstrom (8M, 6M, 6M)
    Slavin (5.5M, 5.2M, UFA)

Right now, I'd cut E Kane, Tarasenko and Markstrom, which would give me around 9M (still waiting on Addison and Pinto's contracts) for 2 G able to take starts, 1 starting C and between 1 and 4 extra bench/prospects.

    Thanks!

There are, to be honest, not a lot of G options to draft.

    Copley, Korpisalo, Hill, Montembeault, Schmidt.
    That's about it.

I would go with what you listed. Panel ski is cheap for what he will bring to the table. Kakko to me is one they are talking could start the season on the top line so might as well ride him and hope he connects the dots

Have you shopped Pasta to see what kind of return you might get? My opinion only, but at 13M for the next two years I'm not certain that that contract is necessarily a good one. If Pasta puts up 113 pts like last year, then I can live with that contract. However, if Dobbers' projection for 98 pts is accurate, or a bit high, well that contract begins to look a little iffy. An awful lot of experts are predicting a significant regression for the B's this year and if that holds true and brings Pasta's numbers back down below 100, well, it's something to consider. Pasta could be a good sell high opportunity, I'd certainly fish around and see what you might be able to do. If not, I think your strategy is pretty solid as is.

Sadly, there's no such thing as a market for Pastarnak.
Just like MacKinnon owner wouldn't get much for him at 16.5M

If I get a 3rd or 4th, it would be insanely good.

There might be a market for the Kane, Tarasenko etc because they are much cheaper.

Points only salary - you are looking for guys that give you 10points per $1m.
So... Pastrnak is over. He's not scoring 130pts yearly. Too risky.

    Drop Markstrom also.
And drop Slavin. He won't do 52pts.

    Terry can do over 70pts.
    Tank can do over 50pts.
Pavelski will do WAY over 35pts.

It's easy math... and it's right.
For D, you want guys exactly like Addison - who have no DEFENSIVE game but will get you 30pts while at $2m or so.

The maths are easy, but with a cap at 95M, you get 950 points... and league was won at 1100 last year.
I did... 948 points for fifth place. Right on the 10 points per 1M$!

Slavin was an easy drop for me until I saw Dobber's projection (which is I think too high) and has me second guess it.
Also, the plan was to sub PO Joseph into that starter role.

I'd shop Pastrnak, and cut him if you don't get anything in return.

From your D, you should cut Slavin, and Ryan Merkley, since he's now in the KHL. I guess you could shop both of them as well, but it's not likely you'll get much, somebody might want Merkley as a throw in.
