I could see him getting the itch again by late October.

But... not having to go through the rigors of training camp with a new team is probably an attractive option for somebody his age...
Especially - one wouldn't want to do that with a whole new organization.

I'd also hedge that he's only getting sniffs at $775k, 1yr (JVR-type, BlakeWheeler-type) offers.
That's pennies compared to what he's raked in.
If he takes a whole year off though... he's getting out-of-shape and it's over.

That's not really true... The time off can offer him the opportunity to focus on a more intense training regiment that he would not usually be able to do due to having to remain fresh come game time. No wear and tear season injuries.

I posted this back in the thread that it was announced the Blackhawks weren't going to re-sign him.

I think he retires at the end of the year as a Blackhawk. I don't think he has what it takes to get ready for another NHL season and he doesn't seem like the type to do things half-assed. He's all or nothing and at this point, it seems like nothing will win. Who knows, he may surprise me but that's my assumption at this point.

I still think he's done. It's hard getting back into it after so much time off. He hasn't officially retired yet but it's coming.

Barring something completely unexpected, he's done. He's made comments recently about putting his body through the physical rigors, injury risks, etc. in his mid-30's versus his 20's and questioning if it's worth it. What's left for him to do? Stanley Cup rings, Olympic gold medals, World Championship gold medals, as well as a few individual accolades adorn his trophy case. All that's holding him back from retirement is his desire to win, IMO and he can do that in a coaching or front office role now.

As an Oilers fan, I am not sure either is what they'd need at this stage of their careers to help them. Maybe Toews for his FOW prowess in the bottom six but Kane is someone I'd take a pass on. He wouldn't come to Edmonton anyway so it's a moot point.

Ya I can see that with Kane. Just be pretty cool to see a duo^2 of (McDavid-Draisaitl / Toews-Kane) take home the Cup.

prime to even after prime-Toews would be a welcome addition on a playoff Oilers, its just hard to know if you would be getting anything near "capable" Toews or "shell of himself" Toews.
Locker room guys are great and all but you still need to be able to play the game.
