Default Helle v Oettinger v Ulmark

    Hi all,

Multicat Roto Dynasty (Keep 13). Goalie cats are W Save % GAA and SHO.

I'm looking at trading a first pick for one of these three goalies. One manager owners both Helle and Oettinger.

In a dyansty league how do you rank them both this year and medium-long term?

My other goalies are Jarry, Kochetkov (rookie), Askarov (farm).

    Thanks

    Oettinger
    Hellebuyvk
    Ullmark

Ullmark won't get nearly as many starts as the other two so his W totals will likely be the lowest of the three. Hellebuyck is a wild card here as Winnipeg won't be very good but there's still a good chance that he gets traded. Where he ends up will affect his value a great deal. He also has a lengthy history of being great one year than being just ok the next.

I still think Ullmark gets traded within the year so that will help his counting stats but hurt his rate stats. Boston will likely be one of the best defensive teams in the NHL again this season so his rate stats will be very good. He will likely only play 45 or so games so he won't get more than 30 regular season wins.

Agree with this. Oettinger is the youngest of the 3 and in my opinion will be the best of the 3 moving forward. Ullmark will decline a bit from last year and Helly is a flip the coin type of guy. And the way the Jets are looking that coin is not in his favor.

IF you are giving up a 1st then Ott is the guy to get easily.

My rankings are the same as the first two responses

Oettinger - unquestioned #1 on a strong team
Hellebuyck - unquestioned #1 on a middling team (who could be traded this season)
Ullmark - timeshare on a middling to strong team
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

Agree with everyone the order is clear.

    Oettinger 1 no matter what.

interesting question is going to be where Helly and Ullmark end up, because between the two of them that could cause a change in the order.

If Helly goes to virtually any contender, he probably stays no 2. Especially NJ. But… he is highly likely to go to an Eastern conf team, and that is currently and for foreseeable future a way more challenging prospect for any goalie given the firepower. That could impact Helly’s peripherals in a meaningful way.

Contrast Ullmark - highly likely to be traded (they were shopping him hard this summer, and his comments at the NHL Awards gala in Vegas were telling), and almost certainly to a Western Conf team. So say he ends up in LA, or Seattle, that’s a pretty damn good landing spot.

But even then, given they are roughly the same age, Helly should remain 2 - largely because of durability. Of the two he is far more likely to maintain a workhorse goalie schedule, Ullmark just can’t do it (witness Monty’s disastrous attempt to play him every night v the Panthers last year…)

    Time will tell!

I believe Ullmark broke his hand in the playoffs and played through it. It affected his performance quite a bit.
