There's hardly any fights anymore, and 90% of the ones that happen are not entertaining at all. By the time we whittle it down to the 10% of fights that are active and exciting, we're down to about a handful of fights per year in any given league. But to get to those wild fights you have to sit through/waste time watching a bunch of jersey-grab dancing that delays my watching the game itself.

I played lots of hockey including at three national championships at two different levels as an adult. I could share my hockeydb page but I'd prefer not to.
Many opponents had guys way tougher than me on their team but it never changed the way I played. Fighting has never been a deterrent.
I wasn't able to even drive when that era was. Dated example really.
And I'm assuming that the MJHL is one of the fighting minor leagues as Everett Bear (207PIMs in 60gp) wasn't even top 15 in PIMs. So did he deter anything of substance when I suspect even looking at the wrong guy started a line brawl.
Like how is there a guy that season with 427PIMs in 52games that season if fighting stopped stupid stuff. Seems like fighting started stupid stuff in this league.
Also, lack of fighting puts a heavier emphasis on refs controlling games, hopefully means that when they get promoted to the NHL, they know how to properly do it. You call penalties properly, players won't need to police things properly.

No one.... no on ever in the game of hockey... has ever thought.... oh crap I better not slash someone across the face because Oglethorpe is going to come and smash my face in...
I love how you know how every single person that has ever played the game of hockey thinks....
But you missed reading my mind when you did your all-inclusive poll.

Dated example or not...
See above for definition of 'NEVER'
Does the date of an example matter when used to counter the argument 'fighting has NEVER been a deterrent'.
And I used Everett Bear because that is a real life example for me.
Its a player that I have played against several times.

So if the word "never" was said, would you agree then that fighting, especially in minors, don't stop people from doing things anymore as it's not a large enough role in a game now? Then in that case wouldn't your first comment of "If I'm a power forward..." be wrong? Shouldn't you be doing those things regardless if there's a guy on the bench that will fight you if you go in with a flying knee to the goalies face? Doesn't the league have a larger role in todays hockey to dole out suitable punishment for things that fighters used to dole out punishment?
I also think we've strayed hard off the QMJHL has banned fighting.

Do you also have a different definition of 'Never'?
Fighting has in fact been a deterrent in hockey, I have first hand experience.
I have played hockey... and the thought of someone coming after me to fight me if I slash there super star in the legs behind the play... deterred me from doing it.
So for someone to say that fighting has 'never' been a deterrent in hockey is reckless at best.
