The real issue is Gibson. They can bring in veteran backups to help improve the situation, but until they ditch Gibson, they go nowhere.

1yr - $800kNEWS: We've signed veteran goaltender Alex Stalock to a one-year contract.
This probably stunts Dostal's NHL career by a year.

re: Dostal.
More and more, we see NHL GMs not rushing their young goalies.
It probably also helps that signing a backup at $800k (or so) delays the inevitable bridge RFA (arb) stats by future prospect goalie.
Big "meh" here.
Makes sense, to me, to let Dostal play at AHL until the Ducks are more solid.
Let the kids on D (Drysdale, Mintyukov, Zellweger) get some minutes before thrusting a young goalie in behind them.
Stalock is fine being the sacrificial lamb for an organization the last couple of yrs. So it totally makes sense. Dostal is going to start in the AHL likely, allows his 2025 contract to be lower. It's fine.
Good for Stalock finding a niche and staying in the NHL.

Stalock is also easy to waive/demote if they decide to go with Gibson/Dostal

I thought Gibson asked for out?
If so, and the request is honoured then it's Dostal & Stalock to start the year
buffalo isn't really considering a Levi-Comrie-UPL depth chart when they're talking playoffs...
are they?

Stalock was surprisingly decent for the Hawks last year. I'm surprised a playoff team didn't sign him to be their 3rd goalie. Granted, goalies should be available on the waiver wire periodically throughout the season. I was looking to add him if he went to a contender.
