    Default Zegras - contract?

Sorry if there are a ton of threads on this but what is going on with his contract?

Are we seeing this as a long term deal or possibly a bridge deal?

Terrys got done a few days ago and I was expecting zegras to sign right after.

Any thoughts please share I’m stuck in my cap league bc I just don’t know with him

He's an RFA, and apparently hoping things get done son from what I've read. I think his contract will come in similar to Terry's in price and term.

Hard to say if he wants a short term or long term deal. I assume they want to lock him up long term similar to Terry but he may not want that. Who knows? All that I've read is he anticipates securing a contract before the season starts. Doesn't really have much else out there.

I really have no idea how these contracts are negotiated but I have a suspicion that the Zegras camp feels he is worth more than Terry. They have put up very similar numbers the last two years but Zegras is 3 years younger. Zegras was drafted 9th overall whereas Terry was a 5th round selection. Terry has 85 point upside whereas Zegras has 90 pt upside according to Dobber. Some folks think Zegras has even higher upside which is not the case for Terry. I dunno. If Zegras does sign a contract very similar to Terry's I think the Ducks may well have got themselves a bargain.

The longer this goes on, conventional wisdom would suggest the less likely we might expect to see something longer term. But I still wouldn't rule that out completely. The Terry signing certainly was a benchmark, and I can't see him signing for less than Cozens did if it's a similar term. The Ducks likely want to do a deal similar to what Jack Hughes did, but Zegras realizes that Hughes left a lot of money on the table by inking a long term deal when he did.

    I'm going to say ANA may currently be at/offering... 8yrs x $7.875m.
He didn't outscore Terry by pace, this year or last year.
But he does - most would say - have more potential.

Teams often give/offer similar players similar contracts.
I see that happening here. (though we don't know... I'm just guessing/speculating)

I think Zegras probably WANTS to see himself comparable to Stutzle - who got $8.35m after a 58pt in 79gp season.
[That contract, though, being delayed since Stutzle signed after yr2/3 on his ELC. Zegras is done all 3/3 of his ELC.]

For me, 50%: I think ANA will cave and see the potential in Zegras and just go 8x$8m.
But I think they are negotiating with the Terry $7m... and that's the hang-up.
ANA will say they are compareable.
    Zegras will want Stutzle money.

Other 50%, they may settle on a bridge of 2yr x $6.5m or so.

If I'm Anh. I don't like the bridge idea.
In 2 years, it'll cost them more than 8x8

    They should do 8x8.
That will look real good when the cap bumps up the next two years.

I can see a 5x7.8 deal as well
With the hopes he can cash in real big at the end of it.

    8x8 should be done already.
