PITTS retained $1.567m on Petry - offsets SJ retaining $1.5m on SJ
Biggest shock, well the only one, is Petry's willingness to return to MON after the harassment of his wife by fans.
I nailed this return. 5 pieces from Pitt and called a 3rd team. Wrong 3rd team, but right player to that team.

My Grades:
A: Montreal. They somehow move Hoffman/Pitlick for Petry at $4.7m/2nd. Wow. That's nice, IMO - to swap Hoffman for Petry and basically Pitlick for 2nd.
A-: Pittsburgh. It's Karlsson. It's Karlsson at a $10m cap hit though. And they got Rem Pitlick. To give up a 2024 1st is a beauty as I'd imagine it'll be late pick (assuming they win one playoff series).

D: San Jose. Hoffman and Granlund going to roadblock the kids (Eklund, Bordeleau)... and the team has no puck-moving D and the only asset they get is a 1st rounder that'll be 25th-32th overall. Yeesh.
Grier is not showing to be a very good GM thus far.
With a rising cap very likely - I think he should've gotten much, much more for Karlsson.
The team now has a C+ forward group and a D- defenseman group.

Yeah, odd piece to the deal in my opinion. Interesting news for Pittsburgh fans. Only problem is Karlsson and his big salary cap, Pitt already had a great puck moving d-man, and this doesn't address any of their weaknesses.

DeSmith is a big nothing in this, IMO, as far as Montreal goes.
I don't see him losing them or winning them more than 2 games, either side of "expected" - as back-up.
For PIT though... the DeSmith thing, IMO, is nuts.
Jarry can't get injured though.
I am surprised that Dubas is holding Nedeljkovic... boy, I don't know about this one.
Dubas must think his team is Carolina-ish and can somehow bring back the AlexNed of 2020-21.
Nedeljkovic has two straight years of looking terrible in Detroit.
That's a damn dumb-ass & risky play, IMO.
GMs like going with their own goalie guys though.
If I'm Dubas - I'm getting an NHL vet on WBS though.
