    So... age 30-36. Woof.
He's been an effin great player for the team though.
People gonna be "WTF"-ing this contract though in three seasons, when Ovechkin retires and Carlson walks.

Great on Wilson...to essentially be on one team his whole career. But wow the Capitals are not smart here.

My trade of Aaron Dell when he was an up-and-coming prospect on SJ for Tom Wilson who was viewed as simply a goon continues to pay dividends. Yeah, this will be ugly in a few years. Gotta think Wilson can be LTIRed any time with all the wear and tear on his body.

Wsh apparently never paid attention to the Milan Lucic or Andrew Ladd contracts and how they aged.
one of those, 'we'll worry about years 4-7 in years 4-7,' type of contracts.

I think he's worth ~6.5M for at least the next two years, but yeah...this will note age well.

Wilson and his manager hit this one out of the park and maybe into the next state! I just can't see how this turns out not to be a terrible contract for the CAP's. I can stomach the AAV for a few years but 7? Whoa! I may be wrong, but it has been my contention lately that Wilson's play will continue to regress, age and injuries are a huge factor here unless he changes his playing style, and if he does that, well, it's an even a worse contract. As Wilson regresses, so too will the CAP's, this team is not at all what it once was and it sure looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better. So, what do they do, lock up Wilson for 7 years at very decent money when the team needs to rebuild. That contract is a handcuff to facilitate a rebuild IMO. Whatever. I guess Carlson and Ovi are in for big contract extensions as well (:

Well... they've already said there will be no rebuild as long as Ovie is playing.
They want him to get the record

Both Ovie & Carlsson are signed for 3 more years
To age 40 and 36... so no big extensions coming for either.

This is definitely the type of bag that you want to see someone else left holding. On the other hand, the Caps are probably imploding before our eyes whether or not Wilson is on the roster. Still, you probably don't want a $6.5M anchor on the books in a half decade when the rest of your championship core has retired and a potential new wave is coming up.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that the apparent focus of the organization at this point is to get Ovi the record rather than win cups. But I guess the first one my help result in the second one, but geez. I just see a roster in dire need of some type of retool or rebuild.

This is as bad as the Lucic contract was 7 years ago. Except it’s much much worse because GMs have had 7 years to get much smarter.

For all new NHL players coming into the league, get out there and hire his agent asap. Great deal for Wilson.
