No, a french press. Cheapo one. Gets the job done. Makes about 2 cups. No one else in the house drinks coffee.

My favorite brand is La Columbe - I like all their varieties but I'm partial to Rwanda Early Riser and Nizza. I go with whole bean, grind my beans, and use a French Press. In a pinch, I'm also fine with any of the brands in the grocery store as long as the beans are fresh and I use the press.

I’m the definition of what a coffee snob could never be. In hospitals, something hot and brown and caffeinated was all I needed. (You gotta be careful, though, cuz WARM and brown might not be coffee!!

But in retirement, I’m lazy and have ground coffee from specialty shops - LaVazza brewed in my Keurig, or a flavored (toasted almond) blend? Hey, it’s a lot fresher than the stuff that got me though 2AM surgeries.

And when everyone is alive at the end of the day, we all win.

McCafe is the go to. But a well made Greek/Turkish cup of jo does the trick sometimes. Opa!

I decided to forgo the Starbucks instant via for backpacking this weekend and went with the creamy nescafe instant. It's all swill, but the Nescafe is cheaper and sweeter.

If you heat your water to boil, wait 1-2min for it too cool and then make your instant coffee. I think the ideal instant coffee temp is like 94F, but I find 80-90F better, but obviously you're sacrificing how long the coffee stays hot.

The difference in taste from a burned instant coffee vs not burned does make a noticeable difference to me. But it's also instant coffee...you get what you get.

I'll give that a go. I can't control the actual temperature of course since I'll be using a camp stove (similar to an MSR pocketrocket) in the middle of nowhere, but I'll try waiting a few minutes before pouring it in to try and prevent some of the burny taste!

Ya, I now have the temp controlled gooseneck kettle. But when I used a normal kettle before, I would leave the lid open and notice right when it started to boil I would turn it off and wait a like 30s-1min.

Small bubbles starting to form = 71C
Steam forming with large bubbles forming = 77C
Strong Steam with small "Pearls" = 82C
Big "pearls" and almost boiling = 90C
    Rolling Bubble = 100C

I had a lot of time to burn during COVID lol!

But the boiling temps thing I know from cooking. But it also changes where you are in elevation. Denver water boils at 94C interesting enough.

I did know about the different boiling points at elevation.

Maybe I'll just bring one packet of regular Via to try it out by waiting after boiling, and then go with the creamy nescafe for the rest of the mornings while we are out (I don't use sugar in coffee so the sweetness is a bit offputting). I really should just get used to not having coffee while I am on these trips, but I'm such a creature of habit!

My dream is to find a place that sells civit coffee. Sounds gross and everything but it's all sanitized and apparently very good tasting lol.

Not far off from just regular brewed coffee? I get we all have different tastes for coffee but that might worry me a bit on buying lol.

This thread is making me want to buy a good coffee maker. I'm starting to feel cheap with my Keurig machine.

I mean it tastes pretty similar to a good cup of coffee. They also pack these cats into cages and feed them the coffee cheeries (pretty inhumane, if you ask me).
