    Oh. Oh wow.
I mean. There's great players... and then there's great players that are great guys.
This is like when Nicklas Lidstrom was done.

I don't get "feelings" just from a player saying I'm done... but Bergeron... he was a favourite of mine.
Guys from RHRS (Rocky Horror Roto Show) can vouch for how often I drafted him.
And he outperformed his draft spot every year I did, even when I grabbed him 17th or 24th overall.

Just a joy as a face and player to watch.
And that TWO-WAY game... oh man... hockey has two parts to it. The number of fans that lose track of that...
And maybe the number of fans that are aware of it BECAUSE of guys like Bergeron.

    What a legend.
    First ballot HHOF.

Thank you sir for being the essence of a hockey player.
    What.an.absolute.warrior.
    Enjoy that retirement.

Cue the panicked inquiries about whether to hold or trade Bruins players?

Good decision in my opinion. Going out on one of the most memorable seasons among the many great seasons he had.

Dang. I was really hoping he was going to go out on top.

Especially with how well they dominated the season.

    Congrats on a great career!

The way the team reacted to him after their loss to Florida reminded me way too much of Weber's exit with Montreal. He definitely had injuries and issues this yr from age and still performed insanely well.

Zacha or Coyle is now the C1 of Boston. They now can safely know they have $5.4m in space for Swayman. Swayman's arbitration case is scheduled for July 30th, so maybe we see a deal before then get worked out now.

    He's a first ballot guy.

He has definitely earned his spot in the Hall of Fame versus many that are in the Hall of Pretty Good.

Pengwin's Lidstrom comparison is apt. Superb talent, but never made it about money or glory. Just a team first player who was on another level and the likes of which we won't see again for quite a while, particularly the fact he played his entire career for one franchise. And to think, one more concussion when he was younger and none of this might've even happened. Thankfully for him - and us - that didn't end his career prematurely.

Now does Toews retire or maybe sign for a season in Boston? I have to think the Bruins make a move for at least a #2 or #3 C.

I said in a previous thread that I still think Toews isn't coming back but we'll see. Two greats go out at the same time?

Crazy too, re:Bergeron, that he went out as the dominant NHL face-off man.
He was the only NHLer to do 1000+ FOW last year.
Boy... he'll be missed by those in FOW-category H2H leagues!!!

I remember back when he was battling concussion issues early on in his career, I thought he was just going to be one of those players that fizzle out due to injuries. He proceeds to carve out an incredible career and still produced at a high level, even at 38 years of age. Unreal.

And he only had 1 yr (rookie yr) where he wasn't above 50%. And it was 345FW out of 699Faceoffs taken for 49.36%! 5 faceoff wins away from 50%!

Marchand will miss him. He does it all and was hoping he'd come back for one more year to see if he can lift Stanley again. Happy retirement.
