If you had the cap space and couldn't find anything better, this trade definitely improves your team. Good deal.
20 team multi-cat cap league, which is H2H plus playoffs. I have some cap room, but not a ton after this deal. It showed up in my in box, and I just had to stare at it thinking I am missing something. Couldn't figure out what beyond the other team needing to get cap compliant. I finished 5th last season out of 20.
Give:
2023 56th Overall Pick 3.16
2024 2nd round pick, likely to be around 25-30
Get:
Artemi Panarin
I had to take that, right?

Normally with Panarin's cap hit I would hesitate since it could cause cap problems down the road but that is a cheap price to pay for a main cog on a perennial contender like the Rags. Good luck.
Call me old one more time.

You got fleeced (:
Seriously, if a GM is basically giving Panarin away you simply can't say no, you find a way to make the cap work out which I'm sure you will.

very small price to pay for eighty plus points a year.
There is a negative sentiment around Panarin and the Ranger offense as he had a so so year last year. I think he rebounds and gets back to his former self so nice low risk trade at a very reasonable price.

It seems like a slam-dunk... but some cap leagues are like 20-teams with a cap matching the NHL's: $83.5m.
That means you have 1.6x (32/20) as many available awesome players as the real NHL, but play by the same salary cap.
So sometimes only the "better than their cap hit" players are the only ones worth rostering.
I'd imagine this is why Panarin is being essentially "given away".
[In H2H cap leagues, Panarin - who doesn't HIT or BLK or PIM - is at his lowest value in fantasy at $11.6m... which is probably still top10 most expensive cap hits in NHL for a 25-40 range H2H multicat fantasy player.]
But... good trade to take it.
My favourite strategy for cap/auction leagues is HIGH-LOW.
That means fill your team with high-end expensive players... and leave $1/$1m for each "scrub" or "flex" position where you just swap out players for the hottest cheap thing on waivers or coming through junior draft.
I like it.
Good pick-up.
I should've clarified the cap. It's now fixed at 20% over - raised a bit this offseason. So roughly 100M.
I also am a high/low guy, but love me some quality middle - rather like cookies or donuts.
