Carolina runs a tight ship I respect it. Now they can probably get him for like 1-2m again without giving up an asset.
I also wonder how this effects a potential Erik Karlsson deal. If Carolina signs TDA, no way they get EK right?

We have placed defenseman Tony DeAngelo on unconditional waivers.
Friedman says that waivers is for the purposes of buying out the contract.

One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
Good news for Cam York owners i guess

I think the TonyD to CAR thing fell apart as soon as CAR & Orlov agreed long-term.
Cap space became too tight even to take TonyD at $2.5m.
For PHI, tomato-tomahto... the buyout hits them with $1.67m this year & next.
That's a smidge more than the $2.5m hit (50% of his $5m) this year... which they likely would've also had to *pay* to get rid of.
It's not like PHI can do anything productive with their cap towards playoffs either year.
It actually probably works better for them to manage a more distributed cap.
Win/win here.
CAR gets Orlov and can still see if they can finagle a move for Karlsson.
PHI ditches TonyD... because they were able to open their buyout#2 window simply by... get this... having Noah Cates file for arbitration*.
*Tidy little loophole there.
TOR will pull the same thing with buying out Murray as soon as there is an RFA-arb number (or contract agreement) with TOR & Samsonov.
I thought the buyout window was closed…

2nd buyout window appears after a team has a player who has filed for arbitration is signed or its arbitrated. Noah Cates in this case.
I thought that was August.

Is Ryan Ellis healthy?
If so, would he have first crack at QB-ing the 1st PP?

Landing spots I could see for DeAngelo are SJ, if Karlsson is moved, Washington, if Carlson isn't his old self, or maybe even Chicago.

Poison to a locker room. If I were Chicago, I'd hard pass. Bedard will already have to deal with keeping a patient and focused mind in a losing atmosphere for 2 years. No sense throwing a gas can on that fire. Maybe he can go to Columbus since they collect dmen, lol. Unites the 2 Jersey boys... one good kid and one a-hole - same home town (my home town actually).

Noah Cates even helping the team in the offseason!
I vote for Chuck Fletcher's driveway. Driveways are where locker room cancers belong.
Fletcher might be the worst multi-team GM in NHL history. It's hard to get a second job with a new team when you are brutal the first time around... and do worse.

Just curious, are there any actual reports of assholishness from his time in Philly? Maybe I haven’t been paying close enough attention but I didn’t see him making much (bad) news during his time there
Without me, it's only "aweso".
