Not all that surprising. Sometimes a person has to hit rock bottom before seeking help.
The reinforces the strength of his case that his contract should not have been terminated (the NHL and NHLPA have policies for substance abuse) and I would think the NHLPA launches a grievance of the contract termination before the start of training camps.

If I'm reading this correctly, so long as he completes an alcohol recovery program and goes 12 months without consuming/posseting alcohol, Galchenyuk will spend 2 days in jail.The Athletic reported that court documents state Galchenyuk was sentenced to 30 days of jail time, 27 of which will be suspended after he completes an alcohol recovery program and goes 12 months without consuming/possessing alcohol. He had one day counted as time served.
Now that this is settled I again will be interested in the NHLPA takes up Galchenyuk's case.
