Default Puckdoku - Daily NHL Trivia Game

Here's a fun New (to me at least) NHL trivia game to help pass time during the offseason.
Each day has a 3x3 grid with the x-axis and y-axis listing either teams or stat requirements and you need to pick a player who meets both the row and grid axis. i.e. a player that played for New Jersey and Columbus OR a player who had 200+ PIM season for New Jersey.

I really like how you can start typing a player's name and then select from a list, I hate having to be able to spell hockey names correctly.

12 team H-2-H 1 year league, daily roster changes, 3 goalie start minimum/week
    2xC, 2xRW, 2xLW, 4xD, 3xUtil, 2xG, 5 Bench
G, A, P, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, Hits, W, SV%, GAA, SVs
    C: C. Keller, C. Mittelstadt, B. Nelson, R. Strome,
    LW: K. Connor, B. Tkachuk, J. Gaudreau, J. Marchessault, E. Rodrigues, A. Lafreniere
    RW: K. Fiala, J. Bratt, T. Jeannot V. Arvidsson
    D: R. Josi, J. Trouba, E. Gustafsson,
    G: L. Thompson, F. Gustavsson, V. Vanecek

    For me today, 7:

    X/2/75
    22/14/16
    35/52/X

My first time playing - in fairness, my two misses were "learning curve".
Apparently a guy who has just signed with CBJ doesn't count yet for his tie to his previous club (NJ)... so I missed that.

I also thought I could pick any 200+ PIM season guy that has ever played with NYR... so I put in my fave goon of past 10 years.
And then was like "Oh... 200+ PIM in a season while PLAYING FOR that team."
That was a hard one, the PIM... since you really have to be an NHL fan dating back to the early90s or earlier.

    x/19/75
    1/15/61
    34/53/74

I messed up one shot not doing it in proper box.. but I don't think I would of gotten box 1 anyway.

Helped Habs were a team, Rangers too I guess. LA ones were on the easier side.

For the Ranger PIM one I was able to put one of my favs

So the % is the percentage that player was picked for that box?

    Are you guys posting percentages?

But either way yes this game is great. I could have sworn I posted it here but it must have been on a league chat.

It emanated from the much more refined baseball version....

This is interesting. Having had my hockey fandom come and go over the years, until getting into fantasy, this is gonna be hard for me. Also What's that guy's name again?" issues.

    5 today.

The percentages change over time as more people offer answers. If you are the first one to play that day and correctly answer "Gretzky" then your percentage will be 100%. If the next 99 people all correctly answer "Jeff Finger" then your percentage will drop to 1%. The added challenge is to offer less-popular answers to get a better score.

    ^Yes & no.
For me... the challenge was to TRY to get the guy that everybody else was guessing.
Like... my MON/NYR guess would've SURELY been the most popular pick in... say... 1989... but it sure wasn't today! LOL.

CBJ/NYR (22%) seemed like the easiest one to match the popular pick... but I only got 22%... and there was another big name, I thought of that might be getting more.
MON/LA (52%) is the one I think I got the most common name - recency bias, most of us should come up with that same guy.

NJ Goon seemed like it was the highest available one on the board today at 75%... that one wasn't hard... but one DOES still need to have watched hockey in the 80s/90s.

Well there is also the idea that you don't want to waste a player who could be used in 2 spots....I know I had that feeling on the Mon/NYR/NJ combo.

On the MLB side, I got burned and stuck at 8 because I rushed and put David Price down for LA/TB. But then when it came to LA/Det I didn't have anyone....

    Shame!
You are not a child of the 80s, I assume.

    Whaaaaaaaat?
Some think this man's HR in a Series game in 1988 was greatest MLB "call"... ever.

That's weird as I didn't have that game today. And Gibson would've been my first answer for LA/Detroit. I am not a child of the 80's, really, though.

I’m really digging this! Hasn’t registered enough to be a daily habit (I’ve had a lot of distractions this week) yet, but I’m sure it will be soon!

    Super fun!

My guess for the Kings/Canadiens square today only has 0.3%
    Without me, it's only "aweso".
