John Gibson requests trade

What gives you that confidence? His last 4 seasons have been very poor and that is taking into consideration the team he has played on.

He still has good games. Just needs a more consistent team in front of him.

On a good team with a good D corps I think he can be a good to very good goalie. He constantly gets bombarded with shots on a team that doesn't care about their own D zone so he definitely can improve on a better team. But will he get dealt? Who knows. I'd like to see him on a good team.

Yes this… his team sucked donkey ballz for 4 years. Seriously have we learned nothing about nhl goalies. They are nukin futz and their success is 80% a team/coach/dcorp function. This is also why mediocre goalies can win Stanley Cups. Also why every year there’s a kid or 29 year rookie that becomes the reason many of us win fantasy ships!

It would definitely be a gamble for a team to go with that term and presumably more than half of the remaining AAV. There are conflicting opinions on whether there's still a good goalie in there although nowadays I see slightly more suggesting he's done. The stats would suggest on the face that he has gotten worse and it is not just the team.There are former NHL goalies and goalie coaches like Jamie McLennan who still see him as a good goalie, and there are definitely execs around the league who agree. Other former goalies like Mike McKenna do not like what they see from him - suggest he has not changed his technical game to adapt to the league. I guess we won't know for sure until this trade gets done or Anaheim improves in front of him. Certainly the balance of evidence suggests he has been in decline, but goalies are a tough read and I have not completely written him off yet. Not many GMs will want to take on the risk though.

Gibson isn't young. He turns 30 next week, and he's got a lot games played.

He should do better on a better team, but will he actually be better than what an average goalie would be? He needs to be significantly better for that cost. He might need double retaining to move that deal someplace, honestly. I'd like to see a team I don't like take him on. I'd say a "rival" but the Flyers have no rivals right now, they're too bad for that to matter. Or at least a team where the trainwreck would be interesting - Montreal comes to mind for that.

As many have stated, a mediocre goalie on a defensoly sound team can win a cup. I watched at least 75% of the Ducks games last year (and beyond). Gibby is a HUGE reason the Ducks won a lot of the few games they did. I think hes still got it. I'd gamble on him if I were another team.

I think Gibson is a solid Goalie. He'd be a great fit in NJ

Listening to Friedman's podcast, he's now linking Gibson to the Hurricanes.

Feels like a Gibson trade is unlikely due to concerns about his health and play, and probably a difficult negotiation over salary retention, but the player does want out and the team is trying to make it happen, so we'll keep tabs on it I guess (again).

Gibson is a decent goalie playing behind a defense that is primarily made up of very young players and rookies. I think if he is moved to a team with a solid D that needs a decent goalie he would become a huge asset to that team. If the Ducks could get another young piece to there roster and go to Dostal on this rebuild that would also be great for them.
