Other than the 2020 & 2021 Tampa Bay Lighting... teams have been winning the Stanley Cup with non-elite goaltending.
There simply aren't going to be many people that see Gibson as an attractive asset, at his age, even at $3.2m.


I think the pairing that might work:
1. You find a GM that has been in place for a while... but who's job is on the line if he doesn't to well in playoff soon...
2. You find a team where the current G1 has been disappointing.
3. You find a team where Gibson represents a distinct upgrade on current G1.

I'd not mind him in Buffalo at the right cost. Not very confident with what the Sabres have in net as it stands, and I really fear putting too much on Levi too soon. There's a couple year mismatch between the Sabres' current organizational/PR needs (make the playoffs again, finally) and present stable of goaltenders.

What gives you that confidence? His last 4 seasons have been very poor and that is taking into consideration the team he has played on.

On a good team with a good D corps I think he can be a good to very good goalie. He constantly gets bombarded with shots on a team that doesn't care about their own D zone so he definitely can improve on a better team. But will he get dealt? Who knows. I'd like to see him on a good team.
