What can we expect from Vilardi in WPG?
31 TEAMS keep all multi-cat (lot of them) dynasty
Offensive stats : Goals, Assist , PPP, PPTOI, SOG...
Defensive stats : PKTOI, BLKS, TakeAway, Giveaway...
    (basically best NHL player)

More or less the same general value as what he gave last year. He'll have more time on ice than LA, but his surrounding cast might not be as good. It seems Winnipeg is making changes, so today's roster likely won't match September's. A lot of Vilardi's early value stemmed from his inclusion on the LA PP1. I'm not sure he gets that same PP1 level in Winnipeg. If he does and it is clicking, then there should be an improvement.

I don't agree with this "crybaby" assessment of dubois. He didn't want to play in Columbus when torts was coaching there, can't blame him for they. He wasn't gonna resign in Winnipeg as a UFA, totally within his rights, and instead of walking like gaudreau did to Calgary, he got them 3 solid to very good pieces. He played well even though he didn't want to be there, didn't mail it in like others who don't like where they are playing. Now imagine how well he'll play in a city he wants to be in.
The jets did the best.they could with this deal, they weren't gonna get better value anywhere else. But this is a huge step back. Vilardi could be a very good player one day but he isn't there yet. And that won't happen this year either. I think it's gonna be a very long season in winnipeg. Can't see them making the playoffs.

So in 2023, you have 4 other contracts that have been signed for between 7.5-9.5m and 8yrs long

    Bratt (Winger) - $63m, $7.875aav
    Caufield (LW) - $62.8m, $7.850
    Larkin (C) - $69.6m, $8.7m
    Horvat (C) - $68m, $8.5m

Comparing PLD to Larkin and Horvat:
    Larkin (27yrs) Last 195gp:
    72G, 99A, 171pts, -39, 590sog, 12.2s%, 52.5FO%, 161hits, 72BLK, 115Takeaways, 127Giveaways, 16.2Point Shares

    Horvat (28rs) Last 205gp:
    88G, 73A, 161pts, -4, 554sog, 15.9s%, 55.8FO%, 217hits, 138BLK, 95Takeaways, 84Giveaways, 17.7Point Shares

    PLD (25yrs) Last 200gp:
    64G, 80A, 144pts, -9, 514sog, 12.5s%, 47.1FO%, 242hits, 116BLK, 80Takeaways, 99Giveaways, 14.0Point Shares

I'd say 8.5m is right in line to what the market has created for a player like Dubois.

A big difference between PLD vs Larkin/horvat is age. When his deal he'll be a few years younger than when those other deals end. So good chance he's more productive on the tail end of the contract.
Also with the cap expected to jump a lot in the next few years, 8.5mil might be considered a steal for PLD's value in a couple of years.

I didn't realize he was that bad at faceoffs. Might he slide to wing?

He has gotten better essentially every yr, he could jump to 49-50%.

The big thing is his OZs vs DZs. He essentially starts 67% of his shifts in the offensive zone, which could either expose him, or dial back Kopitar's role offensively. As much as Kopitar is a star defensively, he starts over half the time in the offensive zone.

Danault is pretty much 50/50 with his time in LAK, but is the ying to Kopitar's yang it looks like. So it will be interesting how LAK use Dubois. He's labeled as this defensive wizard, but the stats show he's more good defensively, and focuses his efforts offensively.

That he will do the exact same thing as Laine and Dubois.... he will want out of Winnipeg and the Jets will be forced to sign him to one year RFA deals until they can trade him for the next RFA.

I thought I saw they would continue to bring Byfield out on the wing next yr.

Yeah... Byfield will (continue to) play top line wing, especially for 2023-24.
That line (with Kopitar and Kempe) was incredible together last year, better than people know - including a 32/11 goal differential.
    https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/...&situation=ALL

Gives Byfield more time to feel out NHL pace of line 1 play, take a few spot Kopitar-throw-out draws.
Really, perfect development place for him, IMO.

I think part of the play by LA to sign PLD long-term is that IF Kopitar retires or leaves, they can revert to C1 PLD, C2 Danault... and NOT have to push Byfield into center-play.

Yup, this is great for byfield. He gets line minutes on the wing with kopitar and and kempe, and when he's ready and kopitar retires (cause he's definitely gonna resign in LA) he takes over his spot.

I don't think PLD is or will ever be a 1C. However I don't think it's a worry as Kopitar should be able to hold down that role for the roughly 2.5 seasons it will take for Byfield to get there.
