What's your biggest sports pet peeve?

Another thing I could add is sports superstitions. NOTHING you do is going to impact the outcome of the game. It doesn't matter if you are at the game, wearing your "lucky" jersey, or sitting on your special spot on the couch. Nothing you do is causal. And sports broadcasters and writers- You don't jinx anything that happens. If the broadcaster mentions a no-hitter is going on, it's not going to impact the pitcher. I cringe every time I hear these stupid comments.

The injection of politics in sports. I can turn on any other channel at any given moment whether it be a news station, sitcom, music channel etc and get political messages one way or another. Leave sports alone, it is supposed to be an escape from that bullsh*t. It's the main reason I don't watch certain sports and ESPN.

Absolutely. While foolish, superstitions can affect the mindset of players and therefore their performance.

The advertising… particularly in hockey. I under stand the need to make money but it’s really detracting from the experience and my enjoyment of televised games. We just had a historic season, setting regular season records and I’ve probably watched the least amount of hockey I have in over a decade.

The sheer amount of advertising on the boards/ice now is just too much. I randomly picked highlights from a few years (1988, 2000, 2007, 2023) just to get a feel for how it crept in. Adding it to helmets and jerseys is even worse. The animated board ads are super distracting.

I’ve been reading a lot of books about psychology lately and the effects of advertising. Marketing and advertising is almost a form of psychological warfare at this point. We are constantly being bombarded by companies trying to sell us shit. At one point, sports used to provide some level of escape. But it’s just becoming tiring and overwhelming now.

The worst part is that we already pay for the product we want, that should be enough. Pay for cable/internet, pay for sport package/channel, and even after that we get hammered with more ads.

My petpeeve is Boston Sports Commentators. Biggest homers ever and most unprofessional commentary I've ever heard.

Last week in my hockey game someone took a poke at a puck under our goalie way late and chaos started, I was behind the goalie on the ice because it was a scramble situation. But by the time I got up I just glided over to the one other player on their team and did the "we're covering each other" thing. Once it all kinda calmed down one guy kept asking to fight me..."I need to boost my cred, fight me"...stfu buddy, I have work tmo. I actually said "I don't work Dofasco shift work, I need to look good at my job, why would I fight you" and it just set him off. Seriously, who wants to fight in beer league? And what idiot in life accepts a fight from someone who wants to fight?

PS. No disrespect for that style of work, I work in manufacturing and I've worked foundry work in the past. I physically can't do that work, you guys on shift work are a different breed. I just say that as it sets guys off.
