    Default 3-Way Trade Involving Provorov

    EF tweeted:
"A 3-way trade involving the Flyers, Jackets, and Kings is happening. Provorov to Columbus, Petersen to Philadelphia"

Rumoured Sean Walker to Philly. Opens door to an extension of Gavrikov in LAK. Salary retention is involved in some contracts

    So it's Provorov to CBJ
Walker, Petersen, 1st round pick (LAK from CBJ), 2nd round pick (LAK)(I don't know yrs yet) to Philly
LAK are retaining 30% of Provorov deal.

    More details coming though.

Provorov deal is 2yrs left at $6.75m aav, so CBJ cap hit would be 4.725m aav if they are taking on 70%, LAK are taking on $2.025m aav for 2yrs

Sounds like Gavrikov and LAK discussed a 3yr deal a few days ago.

    From Philly's perspective its

    Give up Provorov

    Get Petersen and Walker.

Bourne on Kyper and Bourne said he was in the draft room when the Leafs were debating between Marner and a defenseman. And the long standing rumour was the dman was either Hanafin or Provorov. Babcock said Hanafin didn't have the Hockey IQ to be a #1, and Babcock liked how Provorov broke the puck out.

It's been like 7+yrs, but it sounds like Babcock liked Provorov then.

Looks like they got cap space room which is valuable in its own right.

2 years of Provorov @ a 4.7 cap hit cost a 1st and maybe a 2nd? That seems like a worthwhile bet for Columbus.

I really do not see how this makes sense for LA. That is a lot to pay for $5M in cap space, unless you consider Walker a dump rather than an asset (I see him as an asset).

I think that's way too generous. They gave up their second youngest NHL defenseman, and the best all around guy they have who was signed for two more years at a reasonable cap hit, especially compared to Sanheim & Ristolainen.

    In return they got:

Petersen, a goalie who may benefit from a change of scenery who is 2 years older than their prospect backup goalie, and 4 years older than their starting goalie, and is now the guy with the big contract, so he'll be starting. Which will happen anyway once they trade Carter Hart.

    Walker, a second pairing D.

    A 1st and a couple seconds.

However it does help them on the first step to becoming truly awful. That's a decent enough return for a team that wants to blow it up and become the worst team in the NHL for a few seasons. The next step is to move out Hart for picks, and maybe Konecny & Laughton as well. Those two have short enough contracts to make it work.

The real issue is the brutally bad moves under Fletcher that got us here. Z

Expect every player of value that isn't essentially dirt cheap, or untradable due to contract or injury to be on their way out. We'll see who is left.

Walker has literally preformed better than Provorov for multiple years now, and Briere got a 1 and two 2s. I’m not sure why LA could put Petersen in the minors but Philly automatically has to make him their starter.

If Philly trades Hart because of Petersen, that’s dumb but still doesn’t change that this trade is great for Philly. If they trade Hart because they think Sandstrom and/or Kolosov are more likely/better long term starter options, that’s simply fine too.

Ersson is their future starter, as soon as this upcoming season.
