It's a tad higher than I expected (I was expecting no more than $7.5M), but still a fair number assuming he can continue to project upward.

Is this signing in any way indicative whether Montreal has any interest in Michkov or not? Caufield isn't as good, but isn't there some similarity between them?

And I assume this likely means that Caufield won't be any part of a trade for Dubois

Fair contract - I had him at more around 7M x 8 however, I think in a couple of years this is going to look like a nice contract.

I think this is a great deal for the Habs. At that number it's a little high but should age very well. That will probably seem like a low number in a few years. 8 year term is always a risk but to get that commitment from Caufield is great.

It makes sense for Caufield to sign as he's had some injury issues and is high risk high reward in terms of potential. But it can easily be a steal for Montreal in a couple of yrs if they have a 40-50g scorer signed to a sub $8m deal.

If he can shoot at a 3.4sog/game pace for a whole season, he can get 280sog and at 13.5s% that's 38goals. And that's low for his potential he's shown. I can see him get to 300sog and not be surprised. He can get a 15s% and I wouldn't be surprised either (that would be 45g)

I would say that the two are not related. You can't manage a big, impending signing by basing it on how four other teams will possibly draft ahead of you. And even if Michkov ends up at 5, Montreal will need more than one scoring winger.

I think Toronto has shown you can have successful wingers on separate lines in fantasy, and Nylander/Marner play on the same wing, whereas Michkov and Caufield play on opposite sides.

Or have a model like Tampa and have Stamkos, Point, and Kucherov all on 1 line, like Boston has done too.

I don't think they wouldn't draft Michkov just because of Caufield, but if the combination of these two players affect anything at all, and Montreal is interested in drafting Michkov, they could have waited a bit to see if they get Michkov or not. The decision to take Michkov at five, if he's available, must have been made already. ...but it's possible that this signing says nothing about where Montreal is leaning. Still fun to speculate.

Decent deal if Caufield can stay healthy. A little higher than expected but nothing egregious. Wild that he was willing to go 8 years a year before a significant cap jump though. No reason to think he cant stay healthy either, just shoulders for a shooter can be worrying.

I like it. Just a little less than Suzuki. Set the target for the next one’s (Guhle, Slaf,…)
    1) 16 teams full keeper H2H. Start 9F, 4D, 1G, 2 Championships
    pts: (D : 7 pts G /5 pts A), (F : 5pts G /3 pts A), (G : 10 pts W / 5 pts SO), (D/F : 1 pt +/-, 0.5 pts PIM, 0.1 FOW, 0.2 Hits, 0.3 pts SOG, PP and SH).

Forward : Aho, Svechnikov, PLDubois, Giroux, Couture, Wheeler, Cozens, Karlsson, Vrana, Anderson,Greenway,

Defenses : Dahlin, Fox, Doughty, Toews, , Slavin, Miller

    Goalies : Oettinger, Vanecek, Bobrovsky

Prospects : Dostal, Schmid, Chinakhov, Bordeleau, Ostlund, Brindley, Gulyayev

They should not have waited a bit. There were rumblings of an offer sheet and this contract is going to age extremely well. They’ll draft the new BPA at 5 and move on.

The signing is probably great for them. I don't doubt that.

...but just to be clear - you believe they'll take Michkov if he's available to them?
