I like it. Laine really hasn't shown a lot of late. Seems like a reasonable deal.

Hey guys, what do you think about this offer
I get Logan Cooley + Noah Cates + 2rd 2023 pick for Patrick Laine.
It's dynasty cap limited league.
Thanks in advance

A little more info would help.
Do you have a minors system in case Cooley stays in college?
How many teams in your league (gives a rough idea how valuable a 2nd round pick is)
Scoring setup for your league?
It never hurts to show your full roster to see your teams strengths and weaknesses.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League
25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting

My minors are not good, worth mentioning probably only Svozil, Buchelnikov, Savoie
Thanks
Thanks. So I am going to assume that positions dont matter? I should have asked that earlier.
In this setup, Laine has good value when he's healthy but that's always a concern with him. His contract is expensive too considering his health concerns. I know everyone loves Cooley but I am always cautious about guys who play in the desert. He's the best piece coming back to you here and I am not sure it's enough to tempt me to move Laine.

I’m sticking with Laine here. Goals are more heavily weighted. He was a PPG player this season and Columbus is only getting better. In a 24 team league he’s a valuable piece. This might be a different conversation if Laine was 31, but he’s 25. The futures are nice, but ultimately just that. I’m not making this trade.

I don't think Cates is going to amount to much and I'm not sure if you're getting a 2rd or 3nd based on how that's written. I'm not a huge fan of Laine based on the fact that he seems to be a bit of a band-aid boy but he does have big potential. When you consider that CBJ was absolutely riddled with injuries this season, can they really be as bad next season if things go even 50% better than they did this year? I think your opponent is going for a sneaky buy low opportunity here, I personally don't like it.
I would drop Cates out of the equation and at least try to get a 1th rnd pick back along with Cooley if you feel compelled to do it.

Thank you all.
In a leave where goals are worth more, I’m not giving up Laine for that.
I'm ok with this deal, especially if forward positions don't matter. Cooley and the hopefully high 2nd seem reasonable, but I would want more. But is Cates enough to do this?
Cates is a very hard guy to predict. He was used as a defensive shutdown forward tasked with taking faceoffs as a rookie winger, under John Tortorella. That sentence makes the least sense of anything I've typed this month, except for the not-small issue of it being true.
I grabbed him in any multi-cat dynasty I could, because he has value. I think he's got 50 point upside with multi cat contributions and faceoffs from the wing.
