    Default Stone - long term

    Hi everyone,

What are your thoughts on how likely Stone can have a full recovery? I have an opportunity to acquire him (I'm not going to pay much) but for next year and beyond is he a keeper? When healthy he's great but he's never played a full season and barely played the past two.

Acquisition cost aside, I'd have to drop Werenski or a rookie like Holtz/Jarvis in order to keep Stone. I'm leaning towards it not being worth it, but wanted people's opinions on how likely he can get back to his potential. I have my doubts.

    Thanks in advance!

Nope. Just don't even consider it.
"Back" issues for 30+ year old players are major question marks and potentially career-ending.
All we know right now is that GM says "It will take time."

IMO - that's the worst possible comment a GM could make.
(That said, could just be a ploy to stretch his LTIR to playoffs... but I wouldn't take that risk...)

Based only on gut feel, it would seen to be low. Maybe a little higher chance than Pacioretty's achilles tendon lasting a full season.

I don't think the gamble is worth it.

Not worth the gamble , you probably get him on waivers later or next year in your league.

That's what I'm thinking. I took a gamble on Pacioretty this year and I think it'll be more of the same with Stone. Even if he comes back, he'll be at replacement value

    Thanks!

I'm not even joking when I thought I was clicking on this to find out he was on "long term" injured reserve. That should tell you a lot.

I think the responses are pretty much unanimous, Don't Go There.

Not touching this player unless he comes back and proves that his injuries are past him.
I'd much rather roll the dice with Jarvis or Holtz.
    Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.

If you can acquire him for peanuts (final round of draft) or a prospect that may not make it (Alex Nylander type)... or waiver level player (90+% production replaceable immediately from Free Agency)

    AND

Can stash him on IR throughout the off-season.

    THEN

    I do the deal.

    I need both conditions met.

    Low Risk - High Reward.

I get folks saying 'don't acquire him' -- but they should all be accompanied by a '**'. There's that 'What If' that's worth a low end asset to answer.

Absolutely. However, the OP did state up front that to acquire Stone he would have to drop one of Werenski, Jarvis or Holtz as well as pay additional cost which he did not detail. I'm certainly thinking that that acquisition price is just not a good idea for an injury plagued 30-year-old player like Mark Stone.
