His floor is a 2nd pair Dman with 1st pairing upside.
Odds of landing that between pick 27-32 is low.

2021: Corson Ceulemans, Carson Lambos, Logan Mailloux, Olen Zellweger, Ryker Evans, Shai Buium, Daniil Chayka, Scott Morrow

2018: Ryan Merkley, K'Andre Miller, Jacob Bernard-Docker, Nicolas Beaudin, Nils Lundkvist, Rasmus Sandin, Alexander Alexeyev, Mattias Samuelsson, Jared McIsaac, Jett Woo, Alexander Romanov

The only ones you'd definitely take over Sandin are Zellweger, Miller, Lundkvist.

Samuelsson and Romanov are theoretically in the same conversation, although I'd take Sandin over either.

Banking on whoever is taken with that Boston pick being better than Sandin is mystery box thinking.
Good breakdown. That pick could be anything, even Rasmus Sandin!

Washington's clearly looking for a quick turnaround. None of their defensemen are signed beyond this year. Orlov couldn't be signed for a term they liked and netted them that Boston pick. They were trying to turn it around and get in on Chychrun, but that must not have been as affordable. Gustafsson probably outperforming what would get him extended on a cheap deal so they turn him and the Boston pick into a player TODAY, while they still have OV and the rest. Plus, Sandin is cheap so they have money to toss around this summer. I totally get accelerating the timeline in their position. If they had simply traded Orlov for Sandin we all probably like that move so this is just a roundabout way of getting there.

For Toronto, feels like splitting the baby. Sandin wasn't going to be a nightly regular so they get a vet as insurance to stick in the press box in Gustafsson (he's also cheaper on the cap) and then have the BOS 1st to throw around in trades for a forward upgrade, whereas moving Sandin directly probably only secures you one of those even if he might give you access to a better F.

This completes the Leafs attempt to bring back old player /player names.

Sandin was not quite Sundin so...

    Schenn
    McCabe
    Gustavsson

    Who else can they acquire.

Man I really liked Sandin for years, but he really seemed to hit a ceiling with the Leafs. I love his bite he can have, but he's too small to be the player with a bite, and Dubas clearly just took yesterday to mold the team to perform against Tampa/Boston/Playoffs.

Gus is better at the PP than Sandin, and if Sandin was going to only be a PP2 specialist, might as well get someone who is better?

That 1st is def going to be used in the next 48hrs. And if it's not, you know it's going to be traded down in the draft to get a 2nd and a 4th or something.

Sandin should be a solid player for Washington on their PP since they've moved out the guys that usually play that role.
