So here's a shot at predicting the nearly unpredictable: future goalies.

Aside from the obvious near locks to be NHL top end talent in net (Askarov, Wallsteadt, Knight), who else do you guys think are intriguing goalies to target long term?

How do you rank the following:

Wolf, Alnefelt, Schmid, Silovs, Bussi and Annunen.

Are there others here that should be considered?

Lukas Dostal, Calle Clang, Devon Levi, Joel Hofer, Drew Commesso, Daniil Tarasov, Topias Leinonen, Arvid Holm, Mikhail Berdin, Sebastian Cossa, and on and on. There are many more in the same general grouping of guys who show promise, but who really knows. Trying to omit the guys who have had a decent number of starts this year who would otherwise be obvious (Kochetkov, UPL etc.)

Looks like senryu covered a lot of the other names I was considering, but I'll further push Dostal, Cossa, Annunen, Tarasov and Levi.

I'll plug Joseph Woll in Toronto too, just because he has been so good so far this year in the AHL. Why not?

I think Tarasov can be better than all you listed. Also like the situation Kochetkov is in Carolina.

Hildeby/Akhtyamov might have higher upsides than Woll in Tor. longer waits. I can see Woll being the backup next year for Tor.

Levi in Buffalo - a big reason they just traded Portillo to LA

I would say these are the big5 in waiting for NHL spots.


Probably the BEST target in fantasy leagues right now is Kochetkov (CAR).
He's signed for 3 upcoming years on a huge discount $2m.
BOTH the current CAR goalies: F.Andersen & Raanta are UFAs.
At very worst, one of them won't be re-signed and Kochetkov will be back-up on GREAT team next year.
At very best, CAR collapses in playoffs and BOTH are let to walk with Kochetkov having shot at instantly being #1 for CAR in 2023-beyond.


Another guy that just got a BIG stock rise... Mads Sogaard (OTT).
He's been getting spot-play with the OTT goalies out... but next year, with a D that includes Chabot, Sanderson, and Chychrun...
Oh boy - that's a great goalie.
I think OTT has enough cap crunch and hasn't seen enough from Talbot.
I think they go Forsberg/Sogaard next year - unless they acquire a goalie via trade.

Some sources had him with huge upside when he got drafted.
He's stumbled in AHL... but has done quite well (surprisingly) in NHL.


If you are looking purely for guys "off radar".
Maybe Bussi - though BOS isn't going to move either Ullmark or Swayman any time soon.

I don't see Schmid supplanting Vanecek.

Niklas Kokko (SEA) is a guy I'd be trying to land. (Having a bad year, but his Liiga team stinks)
SEA is going to be great into the future as Beniers & Wright age up.
They've got a good stockpile in a declining West.
I don't think Grubauer is a long-term asset.

Timing of him landing in SEA is 2026 or later... and that's good timing for *pop* of SEA as elite West team.

If backups help, I have an under the radar guy who I got laughed at for picking up earlier this year: Matthew Murray. No not the overrated veteran on the Leafs, the guy on the Stars who has been called up a few times this year, and finally played. His numbers at lower levels seemed okay to me, and he's the #3 system goalie right now on a team with good talent.
