Maybe you could do a conference with the twelve GMs in my league who have been doing it wrong for the last 15 years. They’ve been protecting goalies who give them 100 points seasons, wow who would dare do that.
I’d be glad to. You guys have zoom?

    Update on Markstrom.

He played well in relief on Tuesday night in that OT loss to the Bruins, where Ullmark made like a million saves.

And last night versus the Leafs he was just terrific. 32 saves on 34 shots and stopped some point blank excellent chances, including a breakaway from Nylander (who almost always converts on those) and several Marner shots. He kept the Flames in the game, and really looked like last year's Markstrom.

Is it possible that the impending birth of his daughter had him a bit messed up, and now that she's born and healthy his heads back in it? Maybe.

My theory is that now Sutter gives him lots of starts and he goes on a little run to see if the Flames can break through - they are definitely behind the 8-ball but have some big head to head games coming (including at home v the Wild tomorrow and then in Minnesota Tuesday), and then have some supposedly easy games (Ducks, Coyotes) interspersed with tough matchups (Stars, Sens, Knights, Kings). The next 10 games will be crucial, and knowing Treliving he's going to add today to give them a little scoring boost, which has been lacking. We'll see.

Couldn't come at a better time - my playoffs started Tuesday and Markstrom is a major factor in whether I'll have success!

What does everyone think of Markstrom going forward? I traded Copley for him at the deadline as I am out of this years race and looking towards the future. Lo and behold, Korpisalo was brought in and will take some time from Copley (whos value was wins and not so much peripherals) but actually having Markstrom on my team made me realize how badly he was playing up until the BOS/TOR games.

Not sure what to expect from him for the next two years with the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde performance in B2B years.

Markstrom has been terrific last 4 games, especially his 40-save shutout v the Wild last outing. Terrific trade for you, as he’ll likely regain his workhorse status and Flames should be much better next year. As a Markstrom owner, I’m also super pumped at the timing of his re-emergence here, with fantasy playoffs having started - if he keeps this up that’s league-winning potential.

Markstrom is and always has been an average to below average ability goalie. Goalies are most often products of the system. Flames system is broken. This is a team giving Milan Lucic 12 mins a night and has a coach who thinks it’s cool to belittle people. It ain’t 1992 any more. Until Sutter is gone I’m not going anywhere near Markstrom.

How do you explain his Vezina near-miss performance last year?

I disagree that he is avg/below avg, but I do think his inconsistency season to season hurts his fantasy value.

There’s some merit to that take. In 21/22 he was 3rd in GSAA behind only Shesterkin and Sorokin, but in GSAE he was 12th or so. I think he’s probably a little above average, but definitely not below average - his size alone is a huge asset (no pun intended). And in fantasy, with how that team looks on D especially, he should be valuable - this year was just too much change and they haven’t gelled.

Another very strong start for Markstrom last night. Now 1.98/0.936 in 6 March games. And Flames offense starting to heat up.

The best part of his last few games is that they only have 1B2B and if Markstrom does well they can just ride him for the next 3 weeks for most of the fantasy playoffs.

They have 15 games left and 2 B2Bs, but half are against weak / tanking squads - 2x v each of Sharks, Ducks, Canucks and 1x v Hawks and Coyotes.

They might even play him on those b2bs if they are a must-win to make the playoffs.

As a Markstrom owner, it’s setting up well, especially with the Flames offense and Huberdeau/Kadri starting to generate offense. We’ll see!

i believe goal on first shot happened 7 times this year...(im close if not right on) so definitely double digits for first 5.

And… despite the really favorable setup, Markstrom goes out and just destroys fantasy playoff hopes. Not just on him, Flames skaters were putrid last night and not great defensively Saturday v Stars.

So this week H2H I have Swayman, who pitches TWO SHUTOUTS, and I’m risking losing 2 goalie cats due to Markstrom 6GA in each game and pulled after 2nd last night. Oy.

So disappointing, especially when he was so great last week and looked to be turning the corner.
