Gustavsson vs Francouz ROS

I've been trying to pry Francouz as a handcuff for Georgiev for a few weeks, always rejected. Gus has always been part of the package heading the other way. I've also been adding a forward as part of the package since I'm initiating the trade. Am I overvaluing Gus by thinking he and Francouz are about even as far a 3rd goalies go???? Gus was pretty predictable for a while as an ever other game starter, before MAF went on to start a bunch, only to be back to the every other game run. For reference, Gustavsson is ranked #65 to Francouz #117 in my league. My selling point is worst case you break even with the goalies as neither is likely to steal the starters job...toss in the forward, in this case Hayes and he's a little ahead. He just lost Thompson and now Forsberg for what could be a while. His other goalies are Shesterkin and Bob, Thompson on IR

What side do you prefer from his vantagepoint?

I don't think you're overvaluing Gustavsson, but not everyone thinks the same way. Both guys are an injury away from a large number of starts. I think Gus is behind the worse goalie, but he (Fleury) has a better name.

I think you need to simply ask him what it would take skater wise, or if he's holding hoping for a Georgiev injury.

He's definitely holding out hope on Francouz as he has said as much in the last offer I made a few weeks ago. I'm kinda doing the same for Gus.

Georgiev is signed for two more years after this one, Francouz one. Fleury is signed for this year and next. Gustavsson will need a new contract this summer and that contract will tell us a lot about how Minny feels about him going forward. I do think he's going to be given the starter keys after Fleury is done.

I think Gustavsson has a trajectory on a starting job over Francouz so I probably value Gustavsson more than Francouz. Age has to play a factor here too.

I spoke to the other GM and he's not willing to move Francouz. I actually think I get more starts from having Gus over Francouz in the long run, unless Georgiev completely shiets the bed, which I don't see happening.

Thanks for the update. I'm starting to se a trend here, I ask about or make an offer for a goalie only to have them get hurt that night. First it was Thompson and now Francouz. Maybe that's the strategy I should take.

Based on the above.
I suggest your best goalie strategy is to enquire about all the goalies on the top teams in your league. Better to have them on I/R than face them. Lol.

I have been very happy with Gus for awhile now. He's better than MAF now and moving forward (on a very good team). A team that is actually in a spot where they need to choose Gus over the Flower - despite the storied career and championship resume. Wins are at a premium and this is crunch time. Just look at Gus's gamelog... consistency... a wonderful and somewhat rarity for the goalie position!

Add band-aid status and current injury to Frankie, and I think you should be thanking your fellow GM for turning you down!

I wanted to chime in with some more Gus valuation.

I had to deal him or Vejmelka urgently in a 16 team dynasty league I'm in - I kind of got caught napping on how soon Gus would lose minor eligibility, and I couldn't keep both.

The deal was Gus & a 2023 5th round pick (which I'd never even use) for Ruzicka and a high second which will be between 17-20 overall. Did I lose the deal? Maybe. Did I get more than releasing him or Vejmelka? Yes.
