I'm with tweetdrivr here, Chychrun isn't the perfect fit and at the asking price you are likely to see, you really need to be getting a perfect fit in return. I'm imagining some sort of drastic overpay like:
Broberg, 2023 1st, 2024 1st, Puljujarvi (included to match salaries but valued as a negative asset by AZN requiring the inclusion of an additional pick), 2023 2nd for Chychrun
And I'm not even sure that totally works under the cap, or is even really an upgrade.
Chychrun is just a little too Nurse-esque for me. The visceral physical skills are there. The size, the skating, the shot, but what is actually translating is less than the sum of the parts. I want my defensemen to be Milford Men, neither seen nor heard. Deny entries and exits, win battles, smoothly transition the puck to the dazzling group of forwards and never think about them otherwise. Basically, Oscar Klefbom. Chychrun is a lot of things but he ain't that. I'm not sure that guy exists out there. A big reason I'd be reticent to do anything here.
Give me Kulikov for a 4th and roll the dice with the current defense.

On the other hand, I'll die if we finally see the Kings go out and get Chychrun and bring balance to their defense corps. They have enough more defensive types and responsible forwards to go out for a Chychrun type.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's worth the asking price Arizona is sticking to. Do I think he's an upgrade to what they trot out there every night and is more part of the solution compared to the problem? Yes. That being said, the price is too steep and I would look elsewhere, if at all. I'm not sure any of the other names being flaunted are going to be worth the asking prices (Gavrikov, Edmundson, Klingberg). Do they do nothing and gamble or overpay and try something? I don't know but I'm glad I don't have to make that choice.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
And I tend to agree that he's an upgrade, just not the right kind. All of the popular defenseman trade options feel like the Jack Campbells of the defense position, like you'd be paying them and their acquisition price for what you want them to be rather than what they actually are. The closest to an ideal option is Jake McCabe, and in a perfect world the Blackhawks retain salary and give him away cheap after the Oilers overpaid for Duncan Keith, but this is all a little off topic.

On Chychrun, there are a few teams where his skillset fits much better, but the cap is near impossible to navigate for most teams, and the Coyotes aren't close to reasonable on their asking price. That's their prerogative. They absolutely want to make out like bandits, but the cap may be conspiring to make their heist efforts unlikely.

You can never have too many good-great players…. His cap hit is amazing for what he brings… I don’t think there is team in NHL that would not want him…. He would be good fit for all 31 teams and great for some…
Only concern is the price… you almost wish he made 2 mil more so his value would not be so insanely high…

Lou doesn't have that 1st rounder that is part of the ask. He can't sell next seasons as it may end up going to Vancouver (not really sure how that works). But a young roster player, not sure the Isles have that to give. It would be amazing if he could pull something off. The Bolduc move is a roster move, I believe.

No mention of LA any more? They're looking to contend, could use a lefty D and they'd sure have the pieces to make it happen...

Came in to this thread to see where the rumour mill is headed cause Chychyrn has been a beast contributing in all categories so far this season and with Ghost out for 4-6 weeks hes got PP1 to himself.
For fantasy reasons, I hope he stays in Arizona as long as possible! I dont anticipate he'll be getting PP1 minutes on any team he gets moved to.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
