Definitely, I could see them climbing from 14th all the way to like 11th for sure.

Best outcome for NYI is to flip Horvat again for something better.
we drew up lineups for 7 weeks(debating who's moving to wing) on an isles message board group when we apparently had Kadri in the bag only to see the rug pulled out.

Horvat is a higher profile player than Pageau or Palmieri but Lou's been successful at signing the guys he's paid a hefty price for as well as his key pending UFA's / rfas.

Pelech and Palmieri were out for a long time and their return has given them a bit of a spark. Hopefully whatever made Dobson miss the last 2 games before the break isn't too serious.

worth noting imo , Beau was frustrating at times but plucking him out of the lineup card is going to leave a hole . He had good chemistry with either Nelson or Pageau so say goodnight to that steady option .

Him & wife are Southern Ontario folk - and he'll get the family close to.
0% chance he signs in Tor, Ott, or Buf. Detroit maybe. Re-signing with the Islanders is the most likely option by a mile.

Didn't Horvat reject an 8 x 8 offer from VAN? I think he's going to push NYI for 8.5+ easily or he walks.

re: 0% signing in TOR, OTT, or BUF (though I don't see BUF being 0%, close drive across border, Okposo's $6m comes off books this summer)
Maybe not "signs"... but stranger things have happened.

What if Auston Matthews quietly tells TOR that he doesn't plan to extend with them?
And what if Horvat negotiates deal where he signs $8x8m with NYI, gets traded to TOR for Matthews final year + Knies?

I know... I know... it's all wild and crazy... until it Huberchuk's on everybody.

It has nothing to do with the numbers.
That's just comments each side makes.

It's easiest for VAN people to hear this:
From Horvat - "I was hoping to be a Canuck for life. I was looking for a certain contract and it didn't happen."
From VAN management - "We made a fair offer and it wasn't accepted."
In reality - the guy is going to pick a franchise closer to family.

People have to remember that these 18-year old kids get drafted into the NHL and have to play for this organization that owns them for 7-8 years.
When they finally have their chance to pick their employer... it's not ALWAYS all about the money.

    Claude Giroux was case-in-point.
Lots of people didn't believe me when I said he'd be probably signing in Ottawa.
    Fairly easy call, IMO.

Horvat is cut from the same cloth.
His life is about much more than hockey.
He's going to put family/wife/kids first... and I think that means they'll get a home near her parents, in Ontario... and he'll want to be close.

Same... but then I just tell myself that they are replying from a phone which makes editing super annoying.

But everyone thought Gaudreau was an easy call too and look how that panned out.

    My thoughts are:

Buffalo - After the last two seasons I can't imagine Buffalo decides to stop playing either Thompson or Cozens at C. So you're paying one of those 3 $7+ to be your 3C. Or your paying C money to move Horvat to wing. I just don't see it. Plus they're one year out from a very big Dahlin extension.
Ottawa - Similarly, they already have Norris and Stutzle at $8M to play C. Now this isn't as unlikely because of Norris's shoulder issues, so maybe they want to move him to wing, but I really do not see it.
Toronto - Firstly, even for 1 year vs 8, I think NYI is adding to get Matthews, not TOR is adding to get Horvat. Secondly, I think if TOR was moving Matthews they would shift to a very different team/salary structure than what they have been unsuccessful with up to now.

Apparently Horvat can’t sign for 8 years until the trade deadline passes. He can sign for 7 or less years prior to deadline.

Can anyone confirm this cba item ?

this rule apparently changed in 2020 so the isles could give him 8 years before deadline

So the Islanders still have the option to send the pick this year regardless if it's a top 12 or not. So if they stink and miss out on Bedard than this pick has protentional to be a 10th. If we get two picks in the top 10 this year it's got potential to be a game changer for us.

Canucks drafting the last 10 yrs doesn't inflict much confidence in the possibility of picking the right player.

    This.

Between Vancouver + Buffalo I'm not sure what team is/was worse. Development has been their major issue, not their actual picks.
