I think once halftime hit and Portugal knew Uruguay was desperate to win and had the lead, they let up on the gas a bit. The main thing is to avoid Brazil in the knockout, Portugal did that and knew the only threat came from Ghana. But in this WC, anything can happen of course.

Wow, Brazil loses to Cameroon. With a B squad, but still that is a shocker.

As a person of Dutch ancestry I feel good about today's result. I have a hard time rooting for the US, mostly because their fans only show up when there's a big game and the rest of the time they can't be bothered. I'm a football fan, and I think the best football team won today. Kudos to the US for outplaying my expectations but this is the result everyone should have expected.

Having said that, can someone please tell van Gaal to stop playing Blind out wide... or maybe stop putting him in the starting 11 altogether? Also, Timber does not look comfortable as CB, play de Ligt. De Roon hasn't done much for me either but neither have the other midfield subs so I'm not sure what they do there.

I think the Dutch are going to leave disappointed again but at least they're getting closer to being a serious contender again. Oranje going forward for me.

That's actually a dumb story that starts with a username I used to use always being taken. Now it's just whatever anyone thinks it is, that's the first time I've heard "Dutch" though, let's go with that.

So far, no real surprises. All is going according to plan. Oranje vs Argentina and England vs France. Those are 2 crazy games. As for the other knockout games I'm expecting at least 1 upset. Japan can upset Croatia and the Swiss will give Portugal trouble. The next round is going to be great to watch as a footy fan.

Japan shooting to not miss the net was way too evident in the penalties. Not one of the kicks had any power on them, or nearly far enough to the sides. Croatia got lucky.

It was very frustrating watching that PK... Japan played it too safe and there's no power in most of those shots...

had a busy weekend and only caught the holland vs. usa match before being able to watch brazil dominate korea just now.

Seen the highlights though, and for me Brazil looks like the most complete team right now.

quarter finals is going to be great with real good matchups on the slate. The only team I wish was there was Japan over Croatia. I really can't be excited about Croatia, they're the barry trotz team at the world cup for me.

I'm expecting spain/portugal to advance tomorrow but hopefully we see exciting games.

Brazil has looked like they haven't even tried lol. They are just mowing teams down with ease.

The only team I can see really beating them is France with an early goal to shock Brazil.

    Netherlands vs Argentina (Friday @2pm)
    Croatia vs Brazil (Friday @10am)

    England vs France (Saturday @2pm)
    Morocco/Spain vs Portugal/Switzerland (Saturday @10am)

I can't see Croatia beating Brazil, but they are an annoying team. Could happen? England vs France should be a really fun game.

Good, he mouthed off to Fernando after he got subbed last game. His act is starting to affect the national team now. But Santos won’t hesitate to send him home if he continues to act up. He’s no longer the great player he once was but still a good player. He should accept his role as a cog in the machine rather than the driver. It’s sad to see him still think he can dominate like he used to. Player/coach is what he should be doing. Plus it’s Bruno’s team now anyways.

He could still come on late and change games so we will see. I think the Swiss will give the Portuguese some problems, it’s never boring when Portugal plays. Good for Morocco and Spain playing too much tiki taki and not enough urgency. Once you get to PKs it’s all up for grabs.
