    Default Sell high on Vanecek?

Team below. Contemplating moving Vanecek while NJ is on their 10 game win streak. I think NJ is a great team but I think they've played some of the easier opponents in the league to start the season and I'm worried how they do going forward.

I'm not interested in Demko and Vancouver, but would you try moving Vanecek 1 for 1 in return for names like Markstrom, Saros, or Georgiev? Or is Vanecek and NJ a good bet to continue winning many games with quality stats?

You're right to think about Vanecek as a sell high and turning him into a buy low. I wouldn't target Saros, it seems like Nashville had a dream season last year and this year regression is coming hard for everyone. Georgiev is a good target; the save percentage is good, he's claimed the #1 job, it appears, and wins will obviously come, especially when Landeskog and Nichushkin are both back. Markstrom too, although I really would have hoped for more signs of life from him. But Calgary's schedule to date has been pretty rough, so there's some explanation there.

I agree with senryu. Great time to sell high on Vanecek. I would also target Georgiev first and Markstrom after. Georgiev will probably come cheaper and the stats should be similar. Plus, you know the Avs are going to win games while the jury is still out on what type of season it wil be in Calgary.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with Georgiev first Markstrom second. I'm hoping Georgiev's owner (who has Hischier and Bratt) wants to go all in with NJ.

If that owner doesn't want to trade I may first try a 2 for 2 (kubalik+vanecek for markstrom+guentzel) with the markstrom owner before trying a 1 for 1.

That'd be the ultimate sell high! Would love that deal for you.

Why would you trade the starter for one of the best teams in hockey right now?

The Devils are a much improved team. Do I believe though they will keep up this pace, I do not. Also once Blackwood returns, I feel he will start to dig into Vanecek's starts. I would definitely sell high on him right now.

Just to be clear…trading Vanecek would be a big mistake. I would not do that.

I think it really comes down to if you think the New Jersey Devils are going to keep this up for the long haul. They do have some young offensive players. Is their D for real? It is only mid November and the season is long. I don't know if they are going to keep this up.

its about the goalie too...and Vanecek is a good goalie..mind you they really limiting changes against and forecheck like crazy but i think he is good goalie...i dont think Georgiev will ever be sell high for Vanecek and other 2 while they have excelent track record they not doing great atm....goalies are voodo and outside for top 2-3 is hard to predict year to year so i would stick with hot hand and thats Vanecek

I figured there would be some saying to hold Vanecek and others saying to sell high.

I'm not sure which side I lean toward. Vanecek and NJ have been stellar so far this season. I'm just unsure if they keep this up over the rest of the season or if they'll fall back hard. This is a team that has been bad for a long time that I'm not sure what to expect right now. To be clear, I don't expect them to go 70-12 or anything, but do others think they can finish 1st in their division?

One thing is certain - Vanecek is currently playing better than the goalies I'm considering trading for. Maybe Belexus is right. Instead of guessing who will be the best just hold what I have and hope for the best.

I see. Shesterkin will be very tough. The owner is pretty stingy and heavily overvalues his players, in my experience. Likely would want Vanecek+Makar or Tkachuk or Eichel, but I can inquire since he's responsive at least.

Vasilevskiy may be an option. The owner is in 11th place and struggling.

Taking only what has happened to date, Georgiev is tied or close to, Vanecek in Wins and Shutouts, with Vanecek being ahead in GAA, and Georgiev being ahead in SV% and Saves. Colorado is playing below expectations, with heavy hitters on the injured list. The Devils have been as hot as possible, something that will not last. I don't see any reason why people wouldn't prefer Georgiev to Vanecek in a one-year, given the circumstances. Colorado, as a team, stands to improve. New Jersey will eventually regress. The goalies will go with that.

That all being said, sure, if you can pry a Shestyorkin or Vasilevskiy in a deal for Vanecek, do that first before exploring Georgiev.
