Wouldn't be a terrible addition to the rotation but not a great one. If the price is right I suppose but to be honest, I'd be just as happy to roll Kikuchi out on the 5th day. Much like Berrios, he's not as bad as he came off last year. I'm hoping both worked on their game this offseason to return to form. As I say, if the price is right for Cueto, he's a cheap insurance policy but I'm not optimistic on his game.

I wonder what the Jays stance is on having no lefty options in the starting rotation. I guess for regular season does it actually matter in the bigger picture?

Thats one main reason I think Kikuchi will be back there in the rotation.

    What a gong show.

He's moving to 3rd base too apparently.

The Mets current payroll is estimated to be around $384m, the luxury tax payments alone will exceed $111m. Their total payroll will exceed $485m. The previous high was almost $350m.

About half the league isn't at $111m for total payroll.

Even if the Mets win 110 games (110-52), that's still $4,409,090.91/win.

Oof, this one hurts. I like Varsho a lot, but they literally plugged one hole in the OF and created a new one. I can't believe they had to add Gurriel to Moreno to get Varsho.

    Grade the trade

    Blue Jays receive:
    -Daulton Varsho

    D-Backs receive:
    -Gabriel Moreno
    -Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

You're right. It feels like a lot even with Gurriel being a FA after the season.

Is this really the price for a great defender?

It just feels like the Jays come out on the wrong side of these deals. What other team trades a perennial 30 HR guy for a couple RPs? Who else trades a top 10 prospect in the league for an average outfielder?

Maybe I'll be proved wrong. But I don't think their lineup looks better than last year.

Gurriel is still under contract until 2025 I do believe.

I like the deal the more i think about it.

Correa deal might fall through with theMets as his physical has some question marks

Yes, that's right. He's still under contract this year and next. For me, Gurriel isn't the issue as much as Moreno. I was just surprised they had to add someone like Gurriel to Moreno to get this done. Gurriel isn't a stud by any means but he was a good every day player but also important to note he was Vladdys best buddy on the team. I know, some will say who cares, because we don't see that stuff, but clubhouse culture is a big thing to these guys.

Anyway, it's done now, and it still feels the Jays need another OF again. I don't trust KK and Springer to stay healthy and I'm not excited about the thought of Biggio or Merrifield playing bigger than needed roles as replacement players. I wished it was Biggio who went with Moreno but I assume they value his left hitting bat too much, even if he's barely a .230 hitter for his career.
