    Default Thoughts on Necas?

I seem to have gotten lucky adding Necas from FA before the season began because he's currently 5th in scoring. He also looks fantastic in the games I've watched this season and while I don't think he'll put up 90 points over 82 games I'm wondering if he can be a PPG player. I owned him last season and he was mediocre and I don't really know his history other than he was a 12th overall pick 5 years ago. I'm considering trying to get MacKinnon for something like Eichel+Necas but I want to get opinions on Necas so I can maybe understand what kind of player he is.

Is this a hot start for a 60 point player, or is this more than that?

I really never thought he was a 60 point max player. He has ppg talent and hopefully he is starting that process on a consistent basis.

Always knew he had upside. I'd check him down for 60 points with upside for 80.

As far as the trade goes, I wonder if Necas might not have the big name trade value you need to get that deal done. He might be more valuable to you than as a trade chip. You could offer a bigger name that's not producing as much and that might actually be more enticing to the other team. Basically I don't know if Necas is a get rid of him before he goes cold asset and I also don't think everyone will see him as a surefire stud just yet. Who knows, maybe he falls off suddenly. But like I said you could probably package someone different who isn't white hot right now and probably have the other team see it the same way if not better.

Thanks both for the comments. Sounds like 60 points may be his floor (which is honestly a great floor for a FA add) and a PPG could be possible.

I see what you mean about people maybe being reluctant to buy into Necas because this could either be a hot start or a breakout season and I think most in my league have a low risk tolerance. This may just be me making assumptions, but I also feel like people (in my league at least) view trades as, "I drafted this guy 1st round and I'm not taking your 4th round and FA for him" regardless of numbers/stats. In that case I'd need to swap Necas out for a sexier/reputable name, like you say.

I'm also not quite certain what to make of Necas right now. I mean, he will slow down over the course of the season (no breaking news there -- a 125 point pace isn't going to hold). But in the handful of Canes games I've watched this season, Necas looks really, really good pretty much game in, game out. And not just because he's putting up points, but how he's putting them up, and his overall hustle, positioning and the way he's seeing the game. Fast, strong on the puck, super high-end playmaking on many of his assists (and many other plays that don't ultimately convert) and confidence to pull the trigger when appropriate.

Just generally looks like he may be growing into his 6'2" frame a bit. 60 points as a floor seems reasonable this year. 70-75 wouldn't surprise me at all though. I think he's a very nice piece to have from here on out with room for continued growth.
