ill let you know later tonight. My neighborhood is a hot spot for trick or treating. ill have about 500-750 kids on my front porch tonight from 4pm to 9pm.
its chaos.
What are the kids, friends, whatever dressing as or doing for Halloween this year?
Feels like we finally have a full-on (not COVID concerned) trick-or-treating.
I am out of the loop for the popular trends of kids' characters.
Curious what hot costumes will be out & about this Oct31.

My place sees zero trick or treaters (we call them spooks).
I am going with my friend and her six year old. He's a ninja! and has been putting me through ninja training (jumping on the trampoline) for the last few months lol.

I'm not a Halloween person, I don't really like horror a whole lot and I don't have kids so I haven't been into Halloween since college when it was a different reason why I was into Halloween...
But my neighbour spends a ton of time with their decorations the last 2yrs because they got really into it because of COVID. Which means my house has gotten very busy because kids now come to the area specifically for this house and I'm getting the spill over. I like the fact that sitting outside handing out candy has become the norm as it helps dealing with my dog barking all night because of the doorbell.
So I sat outside with a coffee and a laptop playing Overdrive/sports handing out candy while my fiance went to her cousins place to trick-or-treat with their 2yr old. I made a couple of pots of decaf coffee that I had laying around that I offered up to parents in to-go cups that most took me up on. 3-4yrs ago the area would get like 10-20kids/yr, this yr I had 80 and I almost ran out of candy and had to tap into the backup box that I had. Talking to older homeowners 15-20yrs ago they were having 150+ kids/yr so the area is getting back up with younger families.
Costume wise what I saw last night, lots of princesses, ninjas, pirates, dinosaurs, avocados. I got a couple of Top Gun kids, few Stranger Things characters, and some way too young Game of Thrones stuff where I know it was the parents dressing them. My favourite was a "working" jack-in-the-box. Super creative and out of the box (wink). The kids were too young to really pop culture costumes really. I did like the fact I didn't have to deal with way too old kids trick-or-treating, but I also don't know what is "too old" anymore for that. I was a tall kid and got yelled at the last yr I went in grade 6 because I was told high school kids shouldn't trick-or-treat and I was too scared really to go out the next yr with my friends still.

My kids are young adults now so my wife and I went to my buddies house to hand out treats. This is me and my home brewing partner last night. We gave candy to the kids and a solo cup of our Pineapple IPA to parents who wanted to wet their whistle.

Halloween was a big deal in our neighborhood this year.
I agree that after covid altering the last (1 or 2 I lose count) it was nice to get back to an unrestricted fun time.
I saw a wide variety of costumes, some that were likely pop culture which I did not recognize.
My favourite was a Mom dressed as a kangaroo that had a baby kangaroo in her chest baby carrier.

Just took our son out to some neighbors in his Mario costume. He's only 15 months but he enjoyed climbing up and down their steps.
But I think our house only had 20 kids.
Between photos and live trick/treating with my youngest, I was surprised to see 4-5 groups of Mario/Luigi characters.
Amazing how much extension Nintendo has gotten out of that world!
I'm the 3rd last house on a dead end street and it was crickets again . At least this year I have a ring cam that would alert if someone showed up on my steps instead of past years looking out the window 30 times to see if anyones coming
My 9 year old dressed up as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, my 7 year old dressed up as a Dragon Master from the book series of the same name, my 2 year old dressed up as the 7 year old's dragon. I wore a cloak and a wizard's hat as there is a wizard in both of those series of books.
