Wow, crazy, feel for Landy owners and you have to wonder how he looks upon his return, does this affect him going forward? Lehkonen and Nichushkin owners meanwhile are sitting pretty.

Didn't expect this. Sucks for Landeskog who I'm sure wants to return and play. Also sucks for those of us who drafted him thinking he'd miss maybe 1 month.

He'll be 30 in a month, coming off a bad knee. Anyone worried that he'll be going the Jamie Benn route of being a banger who aged really quickly and fell off the map? Or can he be supported by the other talent on the team?
It was not a ploy afterall. Landerskog is out for the playoffs.

Wow, did not see that coming at all, that shifts the landscape in the West somewhat. If Makar is not ready for the playoffs the Avalanche look like a much more beatable team compared to last season.

No Landy and Makar would make them prime to be upset by Minnesota or Winnipeg. Obviously.
Or...that's just what everyone will say and then they'll win in 5 games.
I think Makar can play, I don't think not having Landeskog moves the needle away from them. But having him would have helped for sure.

The surgery is essentially taking a small part of healthy cartilage and bone from an "unused" part of a joint (not weight bearing), and transferring the plug to the effected area. However, if he doesn't have that healthy cartilage plug, they need to find an outside donor for the plug (usually a cadaver).
If the damaged cartilage area is so bad, they need to go in and take out the good cartilage plug, then that cartilage plug is cultured allowing new cartilage cells to grow. Then after 3-5weeks, they go in and implant the new grown cartilage. This is a much larger surgery and the 2nd implant surgery is a full open incision (not arthroscopic) style.

One step further this could be career ending. 30 year old who hasn't played in 2 full seasons and will be essentially 32 by the time he plays another game and wasn't a speedster to begin with. Hopefully he's able to make a full recovery and play again, or at least barring that live a healthy post career life.
Man that really sucks. This is why you should secure your bag when it is offered to you.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
i dont see a comeback in his career now. another year away at 30+ is tough

Marc Methot had the same surgery, he said.
"I had the same surgery performed on my left knee. It’s a brutal rehab process and mine never recovered to a point that made skating at the NHL level possible. However, I do wish him well and hopefully he gets back to playing."
