I'm glad that there's IR in the league where I have Matheson. The +/- is even positive, which is unexpected. He's been pretty useful as I took over that non-playoff team and (likely) get it into the playoffs. If only my goalie wasn't sucking so often.

He's not close to good enough offensively to crack my D in my main league, but he's got uses.

    BUMP (of the day).

Matheson has really fit on his 3rd NHL Team (Montreal).
    2022-23: 34pts in 48gp (58pt pace for 82gp)
2023-24: 57pts in 77gp (61pt pace for 82gp) *Those 57pts tie him for 9th in D-scoring with Rasmus Dahlin!!! He's Age 30. Career year at age 30. That's some good maturity & patience. Very rare to see a player pop-off like this that late in career. Makes you wonder if any other buried D2/D3-ish men out there could pull a Matheson on the right team needing a PP1 D-man.

Nice player for those that got him on the cheap in off-season 2022...

Part 1: PPP. Matheson typically has only logged 1-4ppp per year. He had 6ppa with Florida one year (Ekblad was probably injured), so he hasn't gotten chance there. He IS Montreal's best PP option and any PP1 D-man on an NHL team can put up 20ppp over 82gp.
Part 2: TOI. Matheson has put up 25-30esp per 82gp pace in his last three seasons at 18min/gp. He should eat a lot of minutes, and play 22-24 min/gp. If his TOI increase, so should his points. An extra 2min of ESTOI is a 10% increase on ESP... so 30-35esp is possible.

20ppp + 30-35esp could put Matheson in the 50-55pt range as long as he can hold PP1 and play 22-24 min/gp.
Its pure opportunity, so long as he doesn't trip over his own skatelaces!
I put Matheson in the 50-55pt range if he could do 20ppp + 30-35esp.
    This year... his 57pts... come via 27ppp + 30esp.

Full credit to those who said Matheson's career year was coming. I'm glad I didn't comment here, I would have been dead wrong. I would not have thought a guy would break out at age 29 and in his 7th full NHL season and his first year with the Habs; 34 pts in 48 games. I honestly thought that was just a blip, and I think it's fair to say I was not alone in thinking that. Now, at age 30 Matheson proves it was no blip and is as good an offensive D man as Dahlin. Sometimes I just don't understand fantasy hockey (:

Where's ross10019, needs to roast a few people in here haha.

I didn't participate...I think? In this thread, but I grabbed him before start of year last year, thought he might crack 40, definitely didn't see this kind of production coming, funny enough I have his potential usurper in my minors (Hutson), so better enjoy while the gettings good!
