I like Stutzle a lot so I think this ages really well for Ottawa. If you want to give an 8-year deal, give it to the promising 20-year old who already has a solid season under his belt.
Nice contract for Stutzle.... Big money and big inspiration for German minor hockey players!! Love seeing it!

wtf
holy batman this is expensive
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
It’s a great deal. It’ll be a bargain in 2 years. You’re looking a the next Nathan Mackinon contract.

Ottawa is betting on the kid. Chances are he's going to live up to it and the deal will look great in a couple years. They have the space to absorb it now and will likely be a bargain in the future. Good move from my perspective.
This is like the Jack Hughes, Nick Suzuki type of deals.
Hughes going into last yr was being questioned especially signing that deal in Nov 2021 with only 52pts/117gp in the NHL going into last yr. Then he got a 56pt/49gp season. Suzuki signed his Oct 2021 with 82pts/127gp.
Stutzle has 87pts/132gp and he's signing it before the season starts unlike the other 2. But ya it can work out, or it can be a Colin White situation again in Ottawa but worse.
Stutzle had quite the 2nd half of last yr, I think it'll work out for him, but if he plateaus at all at under a PPG player...it's an over pay.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
I don't see anything wrong with that. Most analysis suggest that any player will be most productive during their 2nd contract (ie, between 22 and 29 years old). This type of contract should be the norm and not a surprise like some think it is. Does it carry risk? Sure. But much less than any long term deal signed on July 1st for UFAs.
I think it's fine overall. Likely an overpay early, value in the late stages. The real impact will be the trickle down and how much money is left to ice a legit D corps.
Interesting though in the sense that I don't see a lot of team following the TB model... who has arguably been the most dominant team in the cap-era.
They were adament about bridging guys coming out of ELC's/early career - Kuch, Vasy, Serg, Point, Cernak... just some of the few I can remember. Can't recall if they bridged Stammer and Hedman or went straight to long-term (at a FLA-tax-friendly discount) but I would have thought more teams would have employed this... as opposed to paying up "early" on guys (Stutzle, Thompson in BUF, etc.).
Biased but seeing Stevie Y lock up Zadina on a bridge (not that Z deserved much) feels like the "process" to stay competitive year-in, year-out in the cap era. Zero issue locking up Stutzle just interesting to watch how each team handles their cap.

Tampa's in cap hell since they won the Cup. They've retained their guys and managed the cap as well as they can but let's not pretend they didn't have to pay their stars to keep them. They get a little lucky with the Florida tax but even with that, they still need to shed players every year to make it work. It's a fine model when your guys perform in the playoffs and win you Cups but otherwise, it can get dicey.
And Stutzle and Thompson are two very different players and situations. Stutzle is a young, high pick that's shown steady improvement. Thompson doesn't have the same pedigree and got paid on the back of a high shooting percentage season. He could repeat but I think 31 out of 32 GMs would prefer the Stutzle deal.
