Dobson vs Chychrun
As Evolving Hockey was predicting that Dobson would sign for almost $6.5 million/season, I'd pretty much written him off as a potential keeper in my salary cap league. But now that he's signed for a very affordable $4 million/season, he's back in that conversation and I'm wondering if he would be an improvement over Chychrun. Since 2019 they've played almost the same number of games (166 for Chychrun and 160 for Dobson) and except for goals and shots, where Chychrun has a significant edge, their stats are quite similar. (The big difference being that half of Dobson's games were played last season while only a quarter of Chychrun's games were played in 2021-22).
Chychrun's ceiling is probably higher, given that we've already seen him lead the league in D goals, but his floor is probably also lower, given that he was so bad last year that he was replaced as PP1 QB. His value is obviously suppressed so long as he plays for the Coyotes and they, understandably, don't appear to be in a hurry to trade him. He's also quite injury prone.
Dobson isn't without risk either, but given that he's $600,000 cheaper and plays for a better team, would it make sense to keep him over Chychrun?
