Hearing #Leafs have agreed to terms with G Ilya Samsonov on a 1-year, $1.8 million deal.

Toronto has their guy to play alongside Matt Murray in tandem next season.

It was never the $$ for Campbell and Dubas. it was the term. Tor did not want to commit to more than 3 years in yet. Campbell wanted the 5.

I get it but realistically it’s a 1 year term for Dubas. He doesn’t make it out of round 1 in the playoffs the term for the goalie won’t matter. I just can’t wrap my head around why the Leafs wouldn’t offer Soup 5 years. They know him, he’s a team first guy plus he’s loved by the players. I dunno but we will see.

Last year Soup + Mrazek was $1M less than this years combo of Murray + Samsonov. Did they sorry… he learn from his mistakes? Imagine the pressure that’s on Dubas right now.

I know, I’m just sour on losing Campbell. I do think that the Leafs are a better defensive system for Murray but don’t have too much faith in Murray. I would not be surprised if Samsonov takes over.

Neither will I. What will complicate things is if he does... and Leafs extend him, then they'll be in for closer to 9-10m in net for 2023/24 season. I think at best we hope for similar to Boston last year Swayman - Ullmark.
I'm expecting a change to their defensive system this year. Similar to TB after they were swept by Columbus. They tightened shit up hard after that.

It won’t be that big of a deal if they can make it out of the first round. IF they don’t then somebody else will have to make those moves.

One of the shrewdest and best signings this off season. Samsonov is going to be the starter by the 3rd week of the season.
