Small town BC Canada, pot stores, pawn shops, dollar stores and coffee shops on almost every street corner.
Have lived here for 32 years of my adult life. Not that I have looked for any of these areas but I can tell you where the supermarket is, the farmers market, where the addicts hang out: see homeless, where the ladies of the evening hang out: see homeless. But no idea where to purchase drugs or where the black market is located. I’d have to enquire at the local RCMP detachment. Whether guns are available or not on the black market I’d doubt it would be easy to acquire one.

Politicians whether Republican or Democrat won’t pass anything it if jeopardizes their seat in office.

This is beside the point. Weed is obv legal in Canada now. Would you be able to find coke if you wanted it?

At least three people were killed in a hospital campus shooting on Wednesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police said.
The shooter is also dead, police said in a Facebook post.
Authorities responded to a call about a man who was armed with a rifle at the Natalie Medical Building, a physicians' office building on the St. Francis Hospital campus, according to an earlier Facebook post from the Tulsa Police Department.

"At this point, we can confirm the shooter is dead," police said in the post, although it is not clear whether the shooting was self-inflicted.

I was commenting further on LawMans reference to pot available on every corner. My point being I’ve been here a long time, wouldn’t have a clue how to find illegal drugs or guns. Highly doubt I could find either if I wanted.

If you can't find illegal drugs in 24 hours or less, you're just not trying.

Still blows my mind people think the ability for an 18yr old to buy a gun instantly in Texas is ok, but he can get busted for drinking for 2 more yrs. That 18yr old is responsible enough to own a firearm, but not responsible enough to have a beer. Or the fact they tried to make gunsafes cheaper and were like "nah, lets keep the tax benefits coming in because we sell so many we want that money".

It's almost a sick cycle knowing that someone will buy a gun and it'll be seized by police and it's a quick buck for the system. Then the production of ARs stays high. Like America is like 4% of the worlds population, and the civilian owned gun numbers in the world are like 46% in America.

Does anyone hear own firearms that aren't used for hunting? I've gone to the gun range with a friend and I thought it was fun, but I also thought "How can I enjoy this constantly?" Is the idea that you start out with a small rifle/gun, get bored shooting it then upgrade to something that is louder? And like honestly, who owns guns for protection? The amount of people that legit do are def not the majority, and there would be no need to get a gun at 18 instantly for that to me.

I own a flamethrower, use it for melting snow and ice in the winter.
Or burning foliage / garden. Use on fields for ruined crops.

Ya this is like owning a chainsaw to me. Imagine owning multiple chainsaws because it's a hobby? People would think you're a weirdo

I just remembered there's the lumberjack competitions. I would guess they'd have multiple chainsaws for a 'hobby'. That's pretty small group compared to the world tho I guess.

Going back to the mental health angle people try to use to explain mass shootings instead of blaming the gun control in America, does that mean EVERY OTHER COUNTRY in the world has a WAY better mental health balance than America does? You have all these shootings in America and the reason to some is mental health. However, mental health doesn't seem to shoot anyone (to the same degree) in Canada, or New Zealand, or England, or Germany.

You either say America has a mental health problem and address it, or maybe the reason why there's so many shootings in America vs Canada isn't because of mental health.

These mass shootings have become a daily occurrence since Uvalde.

I hate to say it, but public pressure ratchets up as these shootings increase and get more media coverage. It's tragic but this is might be what it takes for voters to put the pressure on politicians to enact change.

Or... these become so common that eventually people just accept it as normal life and it slowly becomes a non-issue which would be incredibly sad.

It happens daily across the USA. It's not that it happens more, it's that the media will cover it more in the States. Something like March 2020 was the first time in 15yrs or something insane where there wasn't a school shooting in a month, and it was because schools were shutdown because of COVID.

In Canada (more specifically Hamilton area) the media has pushed this enough where we've had 4 separate gun lockdowns at schools this week. No shootings at the schools, but kids either saying they will, bringing an air gun, or something in that realm.

Two more mass shootings in hospitals in the US yesterday. Guns definitely can't be the problem.

Mass shootings were a daily occurrence before Uvalde too
