In the 1980s my grandfather, who lived in Calgary, and I would call each other after each playoff game. We would say only 'Ha ha!' and then hang up if our team won.

Tried talking to him this week about the Flames and Oilers and his Alzheimer's is so advanced now that he can't remember anything about hockey any longer. Sad, but good memories from the past.

I know what it's like caring for a parent with dementia. It's gut wrenching how helpless it can make you feel sometimes. Not sure if you saw Brock Boesers recent interview where he broke down talking about his dad - that one really hit home.

That's the first time I read that story, so thanks for repeating it! Nice story. I grew up in Edmonton and have relatives who are die hard Flames fans who live in Calgary. I remember those early Battle of Alberta days (mid-late 80's) very fondly. I was also a huge Theo Fleury fan, but had no trouble watching the Flames get doused. I'm hoping for a little playoff magic to get past the Flames this year.

Ankles don’t heal quickly. I’m sure it’ll be a factor for him the rest of the way. It’ll just be a matter of is he still effective being a couple steps slow? If it gets worse maybe he sits, but I doubt it.
