Hypothetically, let’s say the Panthers end up sweeping the Lightning, does that change Toronto’s reaction to this season? Compared to if the Lightning go on to win another cup or even just make the finals.

    No.

Either way if Toronto wants to be a legit contender, you have to be able to come out on top of series with the likes of Tampa & Boston. What those teams do after they beat Toronto should be irrelevant in how Toronto feels about themselves. The whole "we lost to the eventual Cup winning team" is still a losers mentality. It's what fans say to make themselves feel good about liking a team who didn't go all the way.

So ya, rumoured Dubas is a FA, and Keefe is under a contract for the 2022-23 season and is a FA after that. Interesting how that's lined up that Dubas signed Keefe past his deal (if the rumour of his deal length is true).

Not like money is an object for the organization though.

    Peter Chiarelli?

I guess it depends if you want another old school recycled GM or do you want to go out and find an up-and-comer Asst GM who's earned the next chance.

Lombardi, Darche, Mike Gillis, and Tallon are some old school guys. Guys like Tulsky (CAR), MacFarland (COL) and Scott Mellanby are guys who are looking for their first shot at doing it. I guess Bobby Lou could be another one waiting for his shot but he's still learning the ropes.

Chiarelli would trade Nylander for like Gallagher and Petry and somehow the Leafs would win a round and save Chiarelli's career while simultaneously keeping the GM carousel turning.

I miss counted Dubas's deal length.

Him and Keefe are in their final yr of their deals. Both are under contract for the 2022-23 season and that's it.

Just for clarification for others, Shanahan has said both will be back next yr during his end-of-season presser.

So now just wait through another 82 game season (again), make the playoffs then get bounced out (again). Odds are in favor of this group doing it all over…again. Something just isn’t right here.

I agree with sauce, it’s a terrible mentality and gives you a false sense of accomplishment.

Nope I don't see why that matters. 0-10 in series clinching games is what matters.

To be fair I think 4T2 was asking would Tampa getting swept by Florida make Toronto feel worse about their series, not if a Tampa Cup would make them feel better. I think if Florida swept Tampa that would certainly be more evidence that Toronto has a lot of work to do, though I don't think either result should sway them too much considering the history.

There is some of these that can be chalked up to bad luck... but man is that hard to overlook entirely. Like, really hard.
